Brokerage Operations Manager

TIAA-CREF is seeking a Brokerage Operations Manager for our Denver, CO office. The right individual will manage the day-to-day operations and provide operational support to TIAA-CREF advisors and consultants. Management includes new accounts, transfers, cash management and in-bound phone unit. This person will manage a team of 10-14 individuals and must possess solid technical, regulatory and customer service skills and exemplifies strong leadership skills and expertise.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain performance metrics and quality control standards for all processes.
- Operate department in compliance will all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures as set forth by FINRA, SEC, OCC and corporate requirements.
- Act as supervising principal and perform daily activity reviews to ensure activity processes are suitable and according to stated policies and regulations.
- Work with and monitor Clearing Agent to manage service level standards, minimize risk to customer and Firm, and ensure the Firm, Clearing Agent and customers are adhering to regulatory requirements.
- Participate and help manage Brokerage Operations' projects by ensuring that Human Resources, Compliance, Legal, Marketing, Treasury, Information Technology, Systems, Customer Service, Finance and other business partners understand current process flows, regulatory requirements, company policy and the impact on each area.
- Develop and maintain efficient internal processes for transaction, technology, administrative, and operations issues for all brokerage products.
- Work with Product Managers to implement and support financial product offerings.
- Hire, train and supervise operational support staff.
- Ensure operational goals are aligned with and meeting Individual Client Services' goals and strategy.
- Provide visible leadership within the unit through daily interactions: team meetings, one-on-one meetings, call and desk audits, participation in compliance and oversight meetings, etc.
- Help develop metrics to ensure accurate forecasting of and management to budgets, volume and staffing plans.
- Provide team members with goals that align with department goals and objectives and offer regular feedback regarding performance as related to those goals.
- Encourage participation in growth opportunities for all team members.
- Monitor and assess processing trends and communicate recommended changes to senior management. (Changes may require project implementation and testing.)
Qualifications
- 5 or more years of financial operations management experience.
- Previous experience with processing departments, which receive/collect information, data and client instructions.
- Successful track record of leading teams that are committed to organizational goals.
- Strong communication skills: ability to speak and write effectively and foster open communication with staff, as well as internal and external clients.
- Previous experience managing operations projects.
- Strong leadership and strategic planning experience is essential. .
- Ability to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities and rapid change.
- Possess business acumen to make timely and sound decisions.
- Detail oriented, self-motivated, able to work independently and take initiative to solve problems and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated competence in identifying risk areas and proactively determining appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Series 7, 63 licenses required.
- Series 24 required (or able to obtain within 6 months of hire.)
- Experience working with vendors that support correspondent clearing separately Managed Accounts platforms.
- Previous experience with Pershing NetX360 is most helpful.
- Willingness to travel - up to 10% annually.
