Position Description:
Under general supervision, complete complex work primarily involving the maintenance of financial accounting records, including supporting documentations for journals, cash receipts, billings, disbursements and encumbrances; to operate data processing equipment using on-line or batch mode of processing; and to do related work as required.
Examples of Duties:
1. Develops and maintains categorical budgets.
2. Maintains records of approved general journal entries and cash receipts.
3. Initiates journal entries and budget revisions for approval by Assistant Superintendent for Business Services.
4. Reconciles all general ledger account balances of all funds monthly.
5. Posts general journal, cash receipts and disbursements and year-end accrual transactions to the general ledger for all funds maintained by the district, including General Fund (including categorical programs), Adult Education Fund, Children’s Center Fund, Cafeteria Fund, and Capital Funds.
6. Works independently using generally accepted accounting principles and procedures recommended by the California School Accounting Manual.
7. Operates desktop computer with accounting software, and other machines including, but not limited to, calculators, adding machines, copiers, etc.
8. Reconciles and verifies mathematical accuracy of financial or statistical data; schedules, indexes, and files bills, vouchers and other subsidiary records and reports.
9. Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, methods and procedures used in a school district, bookkeeping methods and terminology; ability to learn and interpret laws, rules, and regulations affecting school district accounting and budgeting; understand and carryout oral and written instructions; establish and maintain cooperative and harmonious working relationships; type 50 works per minute from a clear copy; knowledge of desktop computer and accounting software.
Education/Experience:
Completion of high school or equivalent, or any combination of education, experience, or training that meets or exceeds the qualifications.
