Business Advisor

I have a very exciting opportunity for a Business Advisor to join a Finance Company offering affordable finance that mentor and support entrepreneurs starting up their own businesses. This role is with Hays on an EXCLUSIVE basis.
The Business Advisor will work within the team to advise individuals throughout the loan application process, providing good quality business planning, research and financial planning support to help applicants to develop strong business plans and loan applications with the best chance of success. In addition, Business Advisors will provide good quality guidance to individuals who have received a loan as they develop and grow their business.

Your role responsibilities will include:
• Assess viability of loan applications by analysing business plan, cash flow forecast and affordability
• Communicate with loan applicants throughout the application process, advise next steps and signpost to additional support if not ready to move to the credit approval stage
• Establish requirements for individual applicants in order to progress to loan application
• Contact applicants to offer advice on their business plan and application, ensure that this is delivered in a timely manner
• Provide one to one support to loan applicants and recipients via phone, email, Skype and face to face; may include travel across the South East region to meet with applicants
• Ensure that loan applications are compliant with Minimum Standards, Credit Policy and FCA requirements before recommending to Credit Manager for approval
• Record outcomes of interactions with applicants and monitor progress through customer journey
• Keep secure records of checks carried out and decisions made to support audit trail
• Carry out telephone interviews with applicants to assess application readiness and eligibility
• Conduct due diligence on applicant and business idea
• Verify validity of applicant’s identity documents, conduct credit check using Experian on each applicant
• Reduce incidence of fraud through robust challenge of business ideas
• Work closely with Credit Managers during the approval process
• Identify and provide support for individuals once loan has been received, including mentoring
• Design and deliver group training sessions for loan applicants and recipients across the South East – for example: writing business plans, understanding cash flow, competitor analysis
• Make recommendations to the Start Up Loans Company for continuous improvement of processes

It is essential for this role you have an undergraduate degree in business management, finance or equivalent discipline or a Business Advisor qualification is necessary. Previous experience of supporting start up businesses and knowledge of the business support landscape. Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills. You should have an understanding of current regulatory requirements: anti money laundering, know your customer and FCA guidelines on responsible lending. You should also have experience of underwriting business loan applications and experience of reading Experian credit reports.
