Business Analyst – Client Reference Data/Settlements – Morgan Stanley – 6 Month Contract recruitment

Position Description

An opportunity exists for a Business Analyst to join the team to contribute to analysis and development of a new platform within a major initiative.

The Delivery Instructions team develops and supports the core Firm-wide sources of Delivery Instruction data for all institutional business units. Several sources of data exist – SIRen, the renovated strategic repository for holding security and cash settlement instructions and MDI, the legacy repository.

A challenging and high profile multi-year initiative is in flight to expedite the decommission of the legacy Delivery Instruction platform. The goal of the program is to adopt SIRen as the single source of settlement instruction data Firm-wide. This involves design and implementation of a renovated data model and infrastructure, migration of all data for all Business Units/Markets onto the renovated platform model as well as the re-point of approximately 40 systems that consume this data to a API reading the renovated model. The scope spans a wide variety of business units and processing areas.

The Business Analyst will be responsible for aiding the mapping and interpretation of Delivery Instructions data as it is migrated between legacy and renovated platforms. This will be a challenging role, working closely with Operations (projects and operational line), Delivery Instructions IT team and reader systems IT teams to resolve questions in a responsive and traceable way.

Responsibilities will include:
• Liaison with Operations partners and colleagues across Enterprise Data Group and other Technology teams to drive approach and resolve issues or questions
• Detailed data analysis to examine how Delivery Instructions are represented in legacy systems and where errors may occur within the renovated systems
• Liaison with Operations to provide input into requirements and work with development team to interpret into technical implementation
• Manage and resolve risks and issues
• Provide detailed reporting of open issues, tracking and owners
• Provide input into status updates and reporting
• Development of subject matter expertise to consult on Delivery Instruction creation and maintenance
• Provide a level of training at a later stage within the project around renovated concepts
The role, based in London, is part of a team covering multiple locations (London, Preston, India, New York, Montreal, and Tokyo).

Skills Required

   

Experience in a Business Analyst/Project Management role is required. Domain knowledge would include Client Reference Data (ideally Delivery Instructions) or Settlements, as well as a good understanding of a typical trade life cycle.
Strong understanding of BA techniques such as requirements gathering, use cases and process flows required along with practical experience with tools including Excel and MS Access. Knowledge of project lifecycle would be valuable.
Strong communication skills, enthusiasm and proven ability to interface with senior business contacts are essential qualities

Skills Desired

   

Experience with data migration or legacy decommission initiatives would be beneficial but not essential. Knowledge of structured data profiling techniques would be an advantage.
