Vertex, Inc. is looking for a Business Analyst capable of performing analysis of product requirements as defined by the product managers, subject matter experts or customers with minimal direction. Based on this analysis, creates business requirements, product and technical specifications, and analysis artifacts that are used by Design, Development, Testing, Technical Writing, and Training as the basis for the design, construction, and implementation of business and software solutions.
In this role, you will assume responsibility for:
- Participating in and may lead planning meetings with multiple customers to improve complex business processes that may relate to other products.
- Providing factual content and participates in the writing of feasibility studies for development projects, business solutions projects, and complex enhancements.
- Working closely with product managers, customer groups and domain specialists in the specification and analysis of software products using software process engineering, requirements engineering, product development methodologies, and the techniques and tools necessary for producing quality analysis artifacts in multiple development environments.
- Appling multiple advanced business analysis techniques to completing assigned project tasks (i.e. structured, OOA, OOD). Participates in the implementation of complex project methodologies working as a lead project team member. Takes initiative in coordinating dependant tasks and completing un-planned work efforts as necessary.
- Decomposing high-level business and user requirements into functional requirements specified in an appropriate level of detail suitable for use by those must base their work on the requirements.
- Representing requirements using alternative views, such as analysis models (diagrams), prototypes, or scenarios where appropriate
- Leading the requirements analysis and verification work efforts ensuring that requirement statements are complete, consistent, concise, comprehensible, traceable, feasible, unambiguous, and verifiable, and that they conform to standards. Leads in requirements prioritization.
- May manage the peer reviews and inspections of requirements documents to ensure that the requirements were interpreted correctly. May coordinate the work of other business analysts providing direction and performance feedback when necessary.
- Providing a business process engineering perspective during design review for projects.
- Gathering and analyzes the systems requirements for the project staff, and develops internal applications and database systems to support the identified requirements. Documents all system designs, and provides maintenance as needed.
- Performing in-depth system analysis for enhancements and modifications to application and database systems, and the basic analysis for new systems.
- Researching and recommends potential solutions to highly complex development, process requirement, system, and operational problems.
- May serve as the project lead for business analysis tasks on highly complex mission critical projects with minimal supervision. Estimates and schedules business analysis tasks with knowledge of dependencies and risks. Leads internal projects as necessary.
- Performing demonstrations and presentations on the functionality of the application as well as the technical operation.

Specialized Knowledge Skills:
- 5+ years of Business Analysis experience in software development experience required
- 8 years of relevant technical, system analysis and business work experience required
- Extensive experience and an in-depth knowledge of requirements processing, business analysis and modeling, information systems, software development lifecycles, facilitation and influencing, and business process development required.
- Experience in several business analysis methods (Procedural, Object Oriented, Joint Application Development, and Rapid Prototyping).
- Tax or financial industry experience preferred.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of relational database concepts and the related modeling and query tools, i.e., SQL.
- Ability to develop internal applications and/or database systems to meet project member needs.
- Have a demonstrated ability in leading teams assigned to large complex development projects, and/or a demonstrated ability to perform highly complex technical tasks related to mission critical systems.
- Work independently with an ability of planning, prioritizing, and completing large complex work assignments requiring only minimal direction.
Education Training
- Bachelor’s Degree and/or Masters in related field, specialized training or equivalent work experience.
- A recognized Business Analysis Certification or proof of equivalent knowledge required.
