Business Analyst – New York, NY (Surveillance Patterns Analyst) recruitment
Job Summary:The Business Analyst performs a variety of duties depending on the section to which assigned, generally including applying advanced quantitative skills. The Business Analysts develops new surveillance patterns and maintains existing patterns. The Business Analyst develops prototypes and writes business requirements for these surveillance patterns. The Business Analyst works closely with technology and perform user acceptance testing to ensure that requirements are implemented according to specifications. Surveillance pattern development and testing depend very highly on quantitative and statistical analysis. Essential Job Functions:
- Develop of business requirements and prototype surveillance patterns by analyzing market data pursuant to SROs' and SEC rule requirements. Review and analyze economically sound trading scenarios, which may potentially lead to market abuse and manipulation. Conceptualize surveillance pattern requirements and provide statistical and economic reports in justification of these surveillance risk models.
- Work closely with technology team, supervising the development of surveillance patterns, quality control scripts, and assist in conducting user acceptance tests of new and existing surveillance patterns to ensure that the logic is designed and coded according to the business requirements.
- Perform ad hoc statistical analysis related to market quality and trading performance. Review changes and enhancements to SROs' trading systems and assess the impact of those changes on the SROs' regulatory and surveillance program. Review SROs' rule filings and assess the impact of those rule changes on the SROs' regulatory and surveillance program.
Qualifications Qualifications Required:
- Strong academic background with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject (math, economics, or computer science) required, Master's degree or equivalent work experience preferred, complimented with strong quantitative skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of equity trading, familiarity with SRO concept and Regulation, as well as an awareness of SEC rules. Must know SQL and have experience with writing efficient queries for large relational databases (e.g. Netezza, Greenplum, etc).
- Prior experience in the statistical analysis, trading strategies and/or economic modeling and data crunching strongly preferred as well as working knowledge of R, SPSS, and/or SAS is required. Candidate should be comfortable performing high-level statistical analysis on time-series data and working with very large datasets.
- Must be able to work in a fast paced environment, possess the ability to multitask and shift priorities in accordance with changing deadlines/rules. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information handled.
- Candidate with strong communication skills, ability to clearly and succinctly communicate on complex subjects, positive outlook, spontaneous and with high initiatives, is valued.
Working Conditions:
- Work is normally performed in an office environment, with extended hours when necessary.
