Business Development Manager - US Market - Leading UK Media Business
The Gorkana Group is looking to hire a dynamic self starter to join our office in New York, working in a team of two Business Development Managers focusing on penetrating further into the US market with our analysis and insight media measurement products. You will be generating new business opportunities to help the Gorkana Group build our analysis revenue in line with our US business plan.
The role will work closely with the Director of Analysis and Insights Sales based partially in the US to drive focus and leads to increase penetration into this area.
Key to this will be generating leads, meetings and relationships with prospects at target companies, as well as maximising tender opportunities by identifying which of the suite of our solutions is right for each prospect.
You will be an expert at media analysis sales and will be able to exhibit a firm grasp of communication in this area.

Key areas of responsibility:
- Identify strong opportunities in targeted sectors
- Work with marketing to build promotional activity to support sales effort
- Planning of weekly activities in advance such as time for cold calling, follow up calls etc
- Hold sufficient meetings per week to meet KPI’s and to fill your pipeline of business
- Be aware of industry news and any legislation etc that may affect your target sector and manage accordingly
- Identify opportunities for further cross sell opportunities in Gorkana Group
- Organising meetings to present the suite of products to the client
- Phone and virtual meetings as appropriate in the pitch cycle
- Achieving quarterly targets
- Pipeline Management
- Updating of sales CRM system with all prospect activity in a timely manner
- Responsible for the sales process from beginning to end; including the completion of detailed responses to tender, managing the pitch process and negotiation of contracts.
- Attend industry functions ranging from conferences and seminars, forums, breakfast and dinner meetings as well as a host of awards ceremonies
- Assist in the development of effective sales collateral to support the evaluation sales effort
- Work with colleagues to maximise evaluation sales opportunities across group clients and new prospects.
- Report on all new business evaluations sales weekly and provide forecast figures for head of corporate sales each week
- Ensure all administration is completed in a timely manner
- Deliver any reporting required by management in relation to your KPI’s and/or in relation to figures and projections from the team
Key Skills:
- Minimum of 3 years sales experience with proven success and target achievement
- 2 years selling monitoring / evaluation type services/products or 2 years experience in a PR agency in a new business role
- Thorough knowledge of PR and communications
- Ability to talk to customers and close deals both face to face and on the telephone
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – including verbal, written and presentational skills
- Knowledge of the communications evaluation and analytics sector is desirable
- A self starter with initiative, drive and motivation to achieve
- Standard MS Office skills
