Business Development Manager- Higher Education

Panasonic System Communications Company of North America (PSCNA) has an immediate opening available for a Business Development Manager for the Higher Education industry. This individual will report directly to the Director of Vertical Business Development and have a dotted-line reporting affiliation to the Sector Manager for the Education industry sales team. This is a work-from-home position with a nationwide focus, and the candidate may reside anywhere within the U.S. as long as they have easy access to a major air hub. The Business Development Manager will work alongside the Education industry sales team to identify, develop, and promote solutions consisting of the full line of award-winning Panasonic business-to-business technologies (mobile computers, professional plasma/LCD, projectors, professional video, security systems, document imaging, and more) into the Higher Education market. The Business Development Manager will develop and implement a strategic business plan for PSCNA for the Higher Education market. Events and face-to-face visits with top customers, prospects, and partners will take place as required to achieve business objectives with up to to 75% travel expected. This job and the lean structure of PSCNA will require the candidate to be flexible and "wear many hats" as required. However, the Business Development Manager will have certain constant duties and accountability in three key areas. Higher Education Market Solutions Development - Understand the Higher Education landscape and industry trends in order to identify, develop, and market new Higher Education industry solutions and new Higher Education sub-sector opportunities in order to drive current revenue objective achievement and grow the long-term Higher Education sales pipeline - Collaborate with the ISV, Product Management and Solutions Architecture teams to identify, evaluate, recruit, build, and capitalize upon appropriate partnerships with strategic Higher Education solutions providers - Work with industry customers and Higher Education sales team members to identify, prioritize, and build business cases for new product development and product feature requests Subject Matter Expertise - Serve as the Higher Education industry subject matter expert within PSCNA and interface as such with the different stakeholders within the organizationâ?"including Higher Education sales, marketing, and product management and engineering teams - Collect, analyze, and disseminate key Higher Education industry news, customer data, product trends, and competitive information in order to educate and provide market readiness the PSCNA sales force and its channel partners - Serve as the voice of PSCNA for the Higher Education industry in public relations media opportunities to build Higher Education industry awareness for Panasonic - Promote PSCNA solutions offerings to the Higher Education industry and reseller channel through presentations, training sessions, and speaking engagements - Identify and actively engage with Higher Education industry associations in order to position Panasonic as a leader in the Higher Education market - Develop and deliver quarterly "State of the Higher Education Sector" report to all appropriate PSCNA stakeholders Strategic Marketing Development - Develop and maintain annual strategic plan for the Higher Education industry, in cooperation with the Higher Education business unit, segment leaders, and marketing teams - Work with the Marketing team in the development execution of Higher Education market messaging, marketing strategies, sales promotions, and other tactics designed to generate market awareness for Panasonic, produce actionable leads, and grow the pipeline for the Higher Education sales team - Work with the Marketing team to identify and develop beneficial Higher Education resourcesâ?"such as sales presentations and collateral piecesâ?"for the PSCNA sales team and its channel partners to better attract and close sales opportunities - Deliver regular Higher Education market research and competitive positioning/pricing analysis to sales management - Organize regular Higher Education customer advisory event(s) to collect direct feedback from end-users This individual must also: - Maintain a high level of awareness of all PSCNA offerings - Work closely with the Higher Education sales team to develop, manage, and audit the annual marketing development funds (MDF) budget for the Higher Education sector - Manage special products to drive the goals of the Higher Education sector and PSCNA as a whole - Assist the Higher Education industry sales team as necessary to reach annual sales quota Required Skills Experience - A minimum of 5 years work experience in the Higher Education sector and/or in successful sales to the Higher Education market. 7+ years for Senior Business Development Manager - Extremely proficient in the trends, terminology, customer requirements, and key players of the Higher Education industry - Highly motivated, entrepreneurial, self-starter. Willingness and ability to prioritize tasks, set daily action items, and work independently with minimal supervision - Superior organization and time management skills. Detail oriented with excellent follow-through and follow-up - Diligent work ethic. Willingness to take initiative and ownership of strategic projects and move deliverables to completion - Flexible, adaptable team player with strong interpersonal skills. Resourcefulness to effectively navigate the internal organization to resolve issues and achieve objectives. - Strong analytical and problem solving skills - Excellent oral/written communication and presentation skills - Strong computer skills with a high level of competence in the areas of email, spreadsheets, and presentation development Ideal Assets - Broad experience knowledge across multiple areas of the Higher Education industry working in curriculum, technology or administrative function. - Significant experience using and/or promoting business-to-business technologies to the Higher Education industry similar to those offered by PSCNA (including mobile computers, professional plasma/LCD, projectors, professional video, security systems, document imaging, and more) - Ability to successfully lead and develop strategy for sales to executive level decision makers one on one or one on many settings. - Individual would possess through their previous experience the credibility and ability to positively influence key end user decision makers as well as industry partners and internal decision makers on elements of strategy and business plan. - Ability to identify new business opportunities and areas for improvement. Communication skills to present the opportunity and achieve buy-in. Conviction to drive to their completion. - Experience leading strategic projects and delivering results with cross-departmental teams or execution of key education initiatives while working within a Higher Education institution. - Experience developing, presenting, and executing strategic plans and business cases to achieve buy-in of necessary stakeholders both internal and external. - Ideal candidate will bring to Panasonic a network of end-user and partner contacts within the Higher Education industry with which to build the business - Ideal candidate w ill have considerable experience and expertise with educational purchase contracts - Thorough understanding of key technology vendors in the education market Education Requirements - B.S. in education/business/marketing or other degree with focus relevant to the Higher Education industryâ?"although not a requirementâ?"is a positive for this position
