My client, a small-medium sized freight forwarder, is looking for an experienced business developer who will sell multi-modal freight services to clients in a number of niche markets.

Company:

This company has been trading for more than two decades and in that time has established itself as a reliable and dynamic logistics partner. With offices up and down the UK as well as in North America and Oceania, they have a solid foundation upon which to handle forwarding services to all major trade routes. While traditionally they have been a company focused on air and sea freight, they have pushed recently to develop their capacity to provide intra-modal services into Europe as well as warehousing and packaging services.

They recently embarked on a 4-year plan for growth in which they are looking to develop particular markets in addition to re-vamping their sales and marketing scheme. They are in a position to aim for growth because of their strong ability to retain business and foster client relationships. And this is an ethos they are determined to preserve into the future.

Position:

The role is for a business development manager who will focus on penetrating and growing business within a number of niche markets. These markets include, but are not limited to:

• High-value electronics
• Pharmaceuticals
• Furniture
• Lighting

Business within these markets will sell at high margins which will afford the successful candidate exceptional earning potential. At the same time, the business developer will need to know how to sell to services levels rather than price.

While the role is to be based out of their South East office, the position is likely to be worked remotely. On that note, there will be a great deal of autonomy afforded. As the company progresses, grows and expands its market presence, the support they provide will also improve.

Person:

The successful candidate will have extensive experience selling multi-modal freight forwarding services. Autonomy is at the centre of this company's ethos, and the candidate will be expected to thrive in such an environment. Experience in any of the aforementioned markets would be to your advantage and would serve as a base upon which to build a new portfolio of business. You will be keen to travel and visit both new and existing clients and you will be energised by the opportunity to help the company establish itself within markets it has yet to penetrate. This company looks for a high level of dynamism in its sales professionals and helps them to grow alongside the company.
