The Business Leader, Global Prepaid Channel Development, is responsible for incorporating prepaid into emerging payment channels (e.g. mobile wallet, mobile money, ecommerce, transit and P2P) to meet the needs of customers and consumers while increasing market share and revenue for MasterCard.  The role will entail working closely with the Emerging Payments (EP) group to outline a product roadmap relevant to Prepaid, identify product and value chain requirements and define appropriate solutions to meet these requirements. Close collaboration with the “Partner and Infrastructure” and “Processing and Program Management” teams is also essential to build and bring to market these solutions.

Major Accountabilities:

• Directly interface with relevant Emerging Payments (EP) leads to incorporate Prepaid appropriately into the emerging payments roadmap

• Partner and collaborate with EP to establish key requirements from a Prepaid perspective to ensure continued evolution and relevance of the category

• Ensure global relevance by adapting requirements and eventual solutions to different geographies, regions and partner needs

• Identify and prioritize emerging product opportunities and requirements through:
o Market research, opportunity and viability assessments on new products and services
o Competitive surveys and research reviews on existing and new product areas
o Consultation with relationship management, other internal stakeholders and customers/partners

• Map out key building blocks for each prioritized opportunity:
o Creation and validation of the business case, including key assumptions, business and product requirements and financial impacts
o Establishing and refining the target operating model, including operations and technology implications
o Working as required with other GPS colleagues to build key product proposition(s), added value services, pricing levels and overall product construct
o Conduct thorough risk assessments, both internal and external
o Identification of potential partners/customers as key enablers
o Develop customer-ready communication materials to support validation discussions
o Impact analysis of leveraging alternative business models
o Work with the Law Department on any regulatory or legal implications
o Partner with other internal stakeholders to map out end-to-end product implications and requirements, including interchange, rules, licensing and network impacts
o Support definition of implementation requirements
o Support definition of implementation requirements
o Establish appropriate pricing levels if applicable

• Identify value chain requirements in order to deliver turnkey or managed service solutions to customers and partners. This includes putting together appropriate value chain partnerships and identifying commercial partnership and potential investment opportunities to deliver appropriate solutions.
o Partner with the “Processing and Program Management” team to identify and select appropriate value chain partners that meet product objectives and requirements
o Evaluate, recommend and execute selection of external partners
o Drive commercial discussions and negotiations with critical partners

• Work closely with the “Partner and Infrastructure Development” team to build relevant prepaid EP solutions to meet identified requirements

• Evaluate potential competitive responses and develop mitigation strategies

• Support the wider Channel Development team in any assessment related to strategic investment opportunities (e.g. JVs, MA) especially if they enable the EP prepaid roadmap
• Support Channel Development Group Head in the creation of internal and external presentations for the Board, other key MasterCard executives, and for analysts and media as well as global trade forums.

Required Experience and Skills:

• Extensive background (10 years +) in product management and strategy development, demonstrated experience in developing innovative segment and product solutions

• Minimum of 5 years experience in digital (mobile, ecommerce), preferably with P2P experience, with knowledge of the payments and non-payments ecosystem that is driving the mobile and ecommerce industries

• Experience in Prepaid, the payments industry or financial services an advantage

• Experience of working in international markets

• Creative, outside-of-the-box thinking that challenges the status quo and incumbent business models. Previous experience of diversifying product lines and putting together strategic partnerships to improve overall product value propositions

• Background or experience in devising, creating and/or delivering products that enhance the consumer experience by leveraging emerging technologies and trends

• Strong collaboration skills with an ability to get tasks accomplished either in a lead or supporting role with other internal stakeholders

• Superior communication, presentation and interpersonal skills including the ability to work with and ability to influence people across a matrix organization at all levels

• Management style that is pro-active with a respect for employees and their development to the highest levels of performance
