Business Line Specialist – Investment Banking – Financial Institution Supervision recruitment

This firm is a leading global financial services firm with $1.2 trillion in assets at the end of 2011. U.S operations at the firm are significant, comprising approximately 43% of global assets and 24% of global net revenues as of December 31, 2011. The firm manages its business along three primary operating divisions: Investment Banking, Asset Management, and Private Banking. The Corporate Center operates across regions, divisions, and legal entities and provides various shared services such as IT, Finance, Compliance, etc. As of 2011, this firm had 49,700 employees with 51% in Private Banking, 42% in Investment Banking, 5% in Asset Management, and 2% in the Corporate Center.

Responsibilities

The Business Line Specialist is responsible for evaluating the strategic direction of a particular business with a deep focus on all front office activities and identifying the internal/external vulnerabilities to which these strategies may expose the firm. Internal factors will include the overall soundness of the firm's business strategy, the firm's ability to execute its strategy, and the associated risk management issues. External factors might include the firm's competitive position, the regulatory landscape, technological innovation, and broader macroeconomic and demographic trends as well as the view of external analysts on the performance and outlook of the firm.

The Specialist will be responsible for: • Developing and maintaining relationships with key business heads for relevant businesses and, through a regular dialogue, having a deep and nuanced understanding of the strategy and performance of the business they are tracking ; • Assessing the competence of the business leaders they interact with; • Developing and monitoring metrics that measure the performance of the firm businesses against their stated goals in terms of risk an return; • Maintaining a current understanding of industry developments, including trends, new products, significant regulatory changes, and the implications of changes in the macroeconomic environment for their area; • Monitoring trends in new transactions and/or product offerings at the firm; • Identifying shifts in or deviations from the business line's stated strategy (whether such shifts or deviations are articulated or not) and the associated potential risk implications; • Maintaining a regular dialogue with Business Line Specialists at other firms to maintain a cross-institutional perspective; • Working closely with all of the relevant Risk Specialists to develop an understanding of the risks presented by the business they are tracking both at their assigned firm and from a cross-institutional perspective; • Working closely with the relevant Risk Specialists to design and implement an appropriate plan to monitor, investigate, and evaluate the efficiency of the controls in place to manage the material risks; and • Synthesizing their own work with the work of the relevant Risk Specialists to develop an overall view of the safety and soundness of their assigned business, and how well it is being run.

• Strong technical knowledge of the products, services and businesses to which he/she is assigned; • Strong presentation skills; • Significant relevant industry and/or supervisory experience; • Competence and presence to interact with senior leaders at the firm; • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work with and draw upon a wide range of technical experts to develop a holistic view of their assigned business; • Vision to collaborate on the design - and the execution skills to implement - the supervisory program at their assigned firm; and • Strong analytical and communication skills to synthesize a view of the business line in efforts to appropriately communicate the supervisory perspective within the Bank, Federal Reserve System and at the firm.• Masters in Finance preferred
