-- BUSINESS MGR, SURGICAL SVCS - (Job Number: 127498) Description The Surgical Services (SS) Business Improvement Senior Manager role is responsible for the development and maintenance of surgical services business objectives that ensure SS financial and quality objectives are met. Creates operational and capital budgets, identifies variances, and develops action plans to achieve and maintain a balanced budget. Partners with SS Leadership to identify and implement process improvement initiatives. Provides strategic direction to the COO and Surgical Services Director for the surgical services department to achieve clinical and operational division goals. Plans, leads, and implements projects in a complex, multi-disciplinary environment to improve the quality, service, and financial health of the department. Essential Functions: Quality / Process Improvement Identify process / quality improvement initiatives within SS and oversee their implementation as appropriate. Surgical Services Financial Management Analyzes Surgical Services budgets monthly, researches cost areas for variances, assists and advises managers with monthly action plans and helps to facilitate their completion. Leadership: Develop and implement organization-wide patient safety program. Provide leadership and direction in accordance with the organization and departmental goals. Project Management Identifies, defines, and leads projects to support department goals. Team/Culture Change Create an environment that enables the team to perform optimally. Proactively identify potentially difficult situations and manages them before they become issues. Seek to understand cultural norms/communication styles of team members and leverages diverse styles. Effectively adapt management style to meet the needs of a particular situation. Resolve conflicts by developing persuasive solutions. Qualifications Basic Qualifications: * Five years experience managing health care related projects or the equivalent experience * Five or more years managing people, coaching and developing their skills or the equivalent experience. * Five or more years managing complex projects or the equivalent experience. * Bachelor's degree in business administration, health care administration, or equivalent knowledge and experiences. * Proven leadership skills in project management and management consulting, including the following attributes: efficient, collaborative, candid, open, and results-oriented. * Strong proficiency in the use of current office software * Able to facilitate teams and major planning events, helping groups work though significant conflicts and politically-charged situations. * Demonstrated ability to: * Manage against multiple competing priorities for operations and business processes. * Establish clear performance contracts. * Manage multiple strategic projects to achieve expected outcomes, on time, within budget. * Facilitate teams or groups of key stakeholders from all levels and segments of the organization, build teams, and resolve conflict. * Solve complex problems. * Influence strategic change in an organization. * Be assertive, objective and be able to confront clients with difficult issues. * Develop and execute fact-based, data-driven methodologies to help department achieve its goals * Conduct, interpret and present quantitative/qualitative analysis. * Determine the key business issues and develop appropriate action plans from multi-disciplinary perspectives. * Strong interpersonal and communication skills (1:1, peer, multi-disciplinary group, presentations, written). * Able to stand and/or walk for entire shift. Able to walk a distance of three to five miles during course of a shift. Preferred Qualifications: * 5 years progressively responsible management in health care setting. * 5 years experience in leading complex task groups. * 5 years experience in project/program planning and administration. * Master degree in Health Ed., Social Science, or the equivalent. * Experience with process mapping tools, project work plan tools, charts and graphs. * Comprehensive working knowledge of Kaiser Permanente Operations, culture, personnel, organizational structure and values.
