Within our Purchasing Department there is now an opportunity for an experienced Castings Buyer to join the team to focus on the effective purchasing of quality product, on time and within budget.
As a member of the Purchasing Department you be responsible for the procurement of high value castings from within the UK, Europe and Worldwide.
In the role of Castings Buyer your key responsibilities will be to:-
- Lead Casting improvement meetings, working internally, with Quality, Production and Engineering Teams and externally with existing suppliers.
- Identify 'cost down' opportunities, focusing on overall cost of manufacture.
- Manage RFQs, obtaining quotations to product specifications ensuring timely replies are received and comparisons conducted.
- Source new potential suppliers globally.
- Monitor delivery and quality performance, implementing corrective actions to achieve 100% OTIF.
- Manage priorities to ensure effective material purchases.
As a Castings Buyer you will be experienced at purchasing castings, building relationships with key suppliers, identifying improvements and managing lead times.
You will be proactive in your approach, driven to achieve 'cost downs' whilst ensuring quality and improving OTIF rates. The Purchasing Dept. "own" the supply base and as castings Buyer you will "own" the castings supply base.
Gilkes design, develop and manufacture at their site in Kendal, Lake District and employ over 150 people. We are an internationally established manufacturing company; with operations in the UK, USA and Japan. Since the company's first hydro turbine installation in 1856, Gilkes has supplied over 6500 turbines for more than 80 countries. Today, it is focused on the repair, remanufacture and sale of engine cooling pumps, pumping systems and hydropower products.
