As a buyer, you will maximize sales and profitability of a given area of business. Develop business strategies and seasonal assortment plans. Implement strategies and insure execution. Manage business in season through analysis and appropriate reaction to sales trend. Overall support of the company sales, gross margin, and turnover objectives.

Essential Functions

• Identify emerging trends.
• Source and develop new products or business opportunities
• Develop business strategies outlining strengths, weaknesses, new opportunities and risks.
• Negotiations with vendors on availability, product specs, distribution, delivery deadlines and price are fundamental aspects of the job geared towards maximizing the company's profits and surpassing margin goals
• Establish department direction and priorities, and communicate effectively to merchant team and field organization
• Communicate with Product Development, Marketing Department, Stores and vendors to provide information and problem solve
• Train, motivate and develop team to ensure effective performance and growth through consistent on-the-job training.
• Partner with the planner on the development of the assortment plans.
• Work with Planner as a team to drive sales and dominate marketplace
• Build and maintain a strong relationship with vendors
• Manage vendor performance to maximize profitability and achieve financial objectives
• Perform market analysis, competitive shop and analyze sales trends.
• Travel to store locations to review product mix, obtain feedback, and share information
• Be open to feedback from stores to improve product and add to collections.
• Investigate and respond to field issues. Coordinate communication strategies with field organization.

Requirements:

• 3-5 years Buying experience, preferable with an in-depth knowledge of the middle to high-end home market
• Sound negotiating and communication skills
• Strong leadership skills
• Strong analytical and PC skills
• Possess the creative ability to operate independently and be motivated by working with an empowered buying organization
• Bachelor's degree in retail, fashion or marketing preferred
• Some travel required
