Purchases a variety of materials and supplies at most favorable prices consistent with quality, quantity, suitability delivery requirements and reliability of source. Follows up purchase orders to clear any problems arising after placement.

A specialist in buying mechanical, electrical and hardware items, raw materials, iron work and equipment for direct shipments, and/or maintenance and office supplies for entire unit.

Job Specifications and Work Performed:

• Obtains price and delivery from approved sources of supply, works with technical and production teams to resolve issues/supplier exceptions.

• Analyzes bids and quotations and selects source of supply offering most favorable prices consistent with quality, quantity, delivery requirements, and reliability of source.

• Negotiates purchase order price and delivery with selected suppliers, ensures proper purchasing documentation is in place, and places purchase orders.

• Bid material costs for marketing proposals.

• Understands work center material needs, follows up delivery and quality compliance with suppliers to ensure needs are met.

• Investigates and makes recommendations for the settlement of questions regarding invoice payment due to discrepancies or other irregularities.

• Proactively works with the production and technical teams to pursue quality improvement, cost reduction, and supplier performance improvement opportunities

• Must be able to discern and obtain acceptable materials and substitutes within highly specialized Engineering limitations. Determines material order lead time in order to assure timely delivery.

• Initiates purchase orders for buying equipment for entire Division

• Manage a money pool established by bidding direct material and buying at bid price or less. Factors considered are timing (inflation), quantity and potential alternate sources.

• Business Contacts (Internal and External) -- Continuous internal and external contacts regarding selection of suppliers and vendors, bid requests, and placing orders.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree required

• 1-2 years buying experience required.

• Knowledge of purchasing practices and procedures, finance, electronics, mathematics, business law and drawings and specifications required.
