Buyer / Planner (Salary $75,000)

 

 

 

BS degree with 3-5 yrs experience in a buyer/planner production planning, scheduling capacity role, interfacing with MRP/ERP system

 

 

Basic function: Plans for and procures materials from suppliers. Plans work to be performed in house in the assembly and machine shop work centers based upon material availability, capacity, alternate materials and parts and known customer priorities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Production Scheduling
• Analyze material and capacity availability to provide customer promise dates for sales orders
• Maintains internal lead time information based upon process improvements, current constraints, total current demand by product family and priority information.
• Plan orders in MFG Pro to meet required completion dates.
• Manually plans work orders that fall outside the needed completion times.
• Reprioritizes work in the shop on a daily basis based upon changing priorities, material availability, quality issues, incorrect BOMs and specifications and capacity.
• Resolve Bill of Material issues as well as Sales Order issues by working with Engineering and Sales to translate the customer requirements into the correct model driver.
• Manages internal and external material to meet schedules.
• Interfaces with the customer directly to resolve challenging delivery requirements.

Technical Knowledge
• Maintain product knowledge in terms of options, substitutions, critical functions/components, etc.
• Understand material specifications in terms of substitutions, quality, engineering requirements, etc.
• Maintain basic knowledge of supplier processes and capabilities.
• Understand special test/witness certification requirements and actions to achieve certification.
• Identify, implement and/or communicate cost savings opportunities.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.
• 5 years minimum planner / buyer experience
• Skilled in production and supplier scheduling.
• Knowledgeable of supplier processes and capabilities.
• Prior experience in like industry a plus.
• Prior experience requiring technical knowledge (product, process, materials) a must.
• Experienced in using MRP II.
• APICS CPIM certification preferred.
• Team oriented, must have the ability to work cohesively with others.
• Must be self motivated, able to work with minimal supervision.
• Must possess high initiative and be detail oriented.
