FICC Technology (FICCIT) is a global technology organization that partners with a variety of businesses and functions across Barclays Group. The majority of the teams are front office facing and responsible for the development and support of trading, eCommerce, pricing and risk management applications. Several teams provide cross-asset technologies offered to the wider Barclays organization. FICC Technology employs developers, business analysts, project managers and application management resources across the globe, and is organized into business and function aligned teams.
Commodities Technology plays a key role in the firm's Commodities business achieving its leading market position. The team's key challenge is to provide scalable technology across one of the most diverse product sets in the firm. The Commodities Technology team has had many achievements, including the development of a leading-edge eTrading platform and a derivatives trading and risk platform which leverages technology from other technology groups.
Main Function
This role is available in the Commodities IT Risk Position Management team, which is responsible for producing intra-day position and risk data for the front-office and downstream regulatory systems. The platform is undergoing significant build-out to scale to increased volumes and scope. This increase is being driven both by strategic consolidation onto a single risk platform and by the need for a more accurate intra-day view of positions.
The role will be part of an 8-strong team split between London and Pune, balancing the changing requirements driven through regulatory change while working towards strategic goals. The successful candidate will have strong core C# server-side development skills and experience in applying these through work on enterprise applications. This position will present an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to grow their skills and learn from more experienced developers in the team.
Main Duties
- Server side C# design and development
- Database development (MS SQL Server)
- Work collaboratively with other team members to review and improve development practices
- Ownership of full development life cycle. Developers typically own activities from requirements gathering through development, testing and production delivery
Person Requirements
Experience Required
- Experience of developing robust, strategic server-side architectures with messaging and data access layers
- Experience and passion for developing high quality maintainable code with automated tests
- Proven track record of understanding complex business problems and solving these with technology
- Understanding and appreciation of working in production controlled environments
- Team working - a proven track record of being a team player and demonstrated that they have collaboratively solved significant problems
Experience Preferred
- Commodities asset class exposure
- Experience of the exotics markets in commodities, equities, FX, fixed income, credit or other
- Understanding of complex risk metrics and trade types
- Worked in a global company with cross-regional development teams
Skills / Aptitude Required
- Demonstrated strong performance as a C# developer on multi-threaded or distributed applications
- Strong interpersonal skills suitable for liaising with local and remote colleagues and users
- Good verbal and written communication skills. Will be able to concisely convey information
- Ability to self-direct and self-organize such that the highest priority work for a delivery will be completed in an efficient way
- A flexible, positive personality with a desire to learn about the business processes, systems, trading and investment banking activities driving IT requirements, as well as acquiring new technical skills
Skills / Aptitude Preferred
- Experience with industry standards such as Spring.NET (or other IoC), MEF, NUnit and RhinoMocks
- Understanding and experience of XML, XSLT and XSD
- Familiarity with continuous integration (TeamCity) and issue tracking software (Jira)
- Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) experience
- WIX for automated packaging into MSI files
Business Knowledge
The ideal candidate would have experience of working in an investment bank with knowledge of commodities businesses or derivative products. If the candidate has not worked in the investment banking industry before we would expect them to have enthusiasm for learning about financial services and show they have learnt new businesses in the past.
Education
Candidates will likely have gained a strong (2.1 or equivalent or higher) degree in computer science, engineering or a science/mathematics related subject from a well regarded university
