Moody's Sub-Sovereign Group rates roughly 400 sub-national entities in 39 countries around the world. More than half of these ratings are from the EMEA Region. The Sub-Sovereign Group comprises approximately 40 analysts located in 12 offices globally.
Sub-Sovereign CE and Q scores support an estimated $250 billion of government-related corporate and financial issuers, as well as structured finance and covered bonds, and is a growth product within the Moody's. The position will reward highly organised, entrepreneurial candidates who are looking for a challenge in organising and executing a business plan within a dedicated product/analytical line.
Responsibilities
We require an Associate Analyst to assume lead analytical responsibilities for a small portfolio of entities in Europe; to support more senior analysts; and, to coordinate and provide lead analysis on Credit Estimates (CEs) and Q scores on sub-sovereign entities. This latter roles involves interacting with the Structured Finance Group, the Financial Institutions Group, the Corporate Finance Group, and other groups within Moody's, banks, and issuer-arrangers.
Key Responsibilities:
Portfolio Management
- Perform a high level of quantitative and qualitative analysis and prioritize key issues.
- Monitor the portfolio and present issues clearly for follow-up.
- Make appropriate recommendations
- Independently compile and maintain peer comparisons, statistics and graphs.
- Help develop and research short and long-term perspectives on credit issues.
- Interact with intermediaries and issuers.
- Take lead role for Group or Line of Business on special projects
- Prepare rating committee memos and credit opinions and present orally to other analysts, rating committees and external parties
- Support and assist other analysts as required.
Credit Estimates and Q-Scores
- Coordinate Credit Estimate and Q scores requests from various groups within Moody’s
- Main point of contact for various groups within Moody’s, sub-sovereign analysts, issuer-arrangers for Credit Estimate and Q score related questions, providing guidance on processes and procedures
- Ensure processes and procedures are followed by all parties involved
- Maintain databases to track Credit Estimate and Q score requests and work
- Run analytical reviews for Q scores in main European countries
- Ensure documentation and credit policy requirements are met
- Update CE and Q score processes and procedures as necessary
- Flag Credit Estimate/Q score related issues to team leader/senior management and develop proposals/solutions
Qualifications
- Strong academic background. Batchelor's degree essential; MCom/MSc (or equivalent) in Finance, Economics, Business preferred.
Experience
- Strong interest in government related finance, particularly related to operational and service-based businesses
- Proven relevant experience in project co-ordination, or Structured Finance desirable
- Fluency in English essential. Fluency in another European language desirable.

- Strong MS Office skills: principally Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
