CALEA Principal Engineer-Network Regulatory
Education: Bachelor's Degree in a Technical discipline; accelerated degree preferred Experience: 5+ years experience in telecommunications and project management with knowledge and understanding of: - Unix / Linux / Solaris - IP routing and protocols - Voice switch infrastructure - Lucent 5E and ECP, Motorola MGX, and Nortel MTX - Voice cells infrastructure - Lucent, Motorola, Nortel, - Cdma2000 Data infrastructure (1xRTT, EV-DO) Starent, UT Starcom, Bridgewater - Motorola PTT - Proficient in office computer applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access - Strong project management skills to manage multiple projects concurrently - Strong interpersonal skills to coordinate with internal/external groups ï?§ Ability to operate well under pressure and exercise sound judgment - Advanced PC skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) ï?§ Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the business in both written and oral forms ï?§ Adaptive to change, open to different viewpoints, ability to innovate - Strong negotiation and contractor/consultant management skills - Current or previous experience in wireless communications a plus - Current or previous CALEA experience preferred - Overnight travel is requiredThe successful candidate will be responsible for managing various aspects of the Network department's Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) Program. He/she will provide subject matter expertise in all aspects of our CALEA solution and compliance with applicable CALEA regulatory requirements. The job responsibilites include: Establish the budget, strategy, overall design requirements and performance expectations for Verizon Wireless CALEA solution. Manage the implementation of new capabilities, and test those capabilities against industry standards and regulatory requirements. Review new product designs to ensure they are developed and deployed in a manner that is consistent with our strategy and capable of being intelligently integrated into our CALEA infrastructure. Manage performance of the CALEA solution to ensure it is operating at peak performance and intervene with operational teams as necessary to maintain established performance expectations. Perform pre/post testing as required in support of the Network change control program that may affect the CALEA architecture or the solutions capabilities. Plan and assist with system patches and upgrades. Function as SPOC/SME for all things CALEA. Work closely with VZW LERT group and law enforcement at the federal, state and local level to ensure CALEA functionality meets their needs and that they are fully trained on the solution's capabilities and any new requirements, capabilities or functionality. Coordinate maintenance and upgrade schedules and manage troubleshooting activities. Represent VZW in various industry standards forums related to the CALEA solution and drive the development of standards that satisfy regulatory requirements and VZW business objectives. Manage CALEA supplier performance to ensure they deliver solutions which meet or exceed the previously mentioned standards, requirements and business goals. Represent VZW at the Law Enforcement Technical Forum (LETF) Conferences.
