Cancer Registry Data Analyst Job in Honolulu, Hawaii Us
Abstracts, analyzes, and codes clinical data according to appropriate classification systems. Obtains long-term follow-up data. Analyzes health records according to established standards. Processes, maintains, compiles, and reports on health information for research, quality assurance, program planning and marketing.
Essential Functions:
- Reviews and analyzes patient medical records. Obtains end-results information on status of disease, recurrence, further treatment and length of survival. Maintains percent of follow-up within standards necessary for accreditation. Determines appropriateness of follow-up according to guidelines established by Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program and Cancer Committee
- Promotes continuing care of cancer patients through follow-up system. Coordinates information. Communicates with physicians and patients regarding continued care. Communicates with other registries, medical facilities and health professionals for exchange of pertinent information
- Assists in identification of cases of malignant disease diagnosed and treated within Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program
- Assists in organization and management of computerized data system. Ensures conformance to standards of cancer registry operations. Ensures system meets needs of registry data users
- Assists in development and maintenance of quality control case findings, abstraction, coding, follow-up and data processing procedures. Assists in writing and maintenance of cancer registry standard procedure manual
- Follows established procedure for retrieval of cancer registry data from computerized system
- Assists in assembly and dissemination of data compiled in computer registry. Assists in identification and collection of information for annual and ad-hoc reports. Assists in design of tables, charts and graphs depicting cancer statistics
- Assists in data collection for protocol studies
- Participates in educational activities of local, state, and national tumor registrar associations. Attends lectures, symposia and training programs as directed or available
- Assumes responsibilities of cancer registry coordinator during absence or as assigned
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- One year of tumor registry experience or enrolled in a NCRA-Accredited Formal Education Certificate or Degree Program with expectation of getting Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR)
- Computerized cancer registry systems experience
- Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) eligible. Must pass CTR examination within 3 years from the date hired
- associate's Degree in Health Information Management, Nursing or related field or equivalent related experience
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, diagnostic examination, symptoms/characteristics/behavior of various malignancies and current methods of treatment
- Knowledge of ICD-0 and morphology coding system including Multiple Primary and Histology Coding Rules
- Knowledge of Collaborative Stage Data Collection System
- Knowledge of FORDS (Facility Oncology Registry Data Standards)
- Demonstrated ability to abstract pertinent information without distortion
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in customer service, statistical data analysis/interpretation, oral communication, systems thinking, teamwork and written communication
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with the METRIQ cancer registry system
- associate's Degree from a National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) Accredited Program
- Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) by the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA)
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing, spreadsheet and database PC applications
