NPS Uniform Required DUTIES: Back to top This position is located in Cornish, NH within the Division of Resource Management and Maintenance at Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site and reports to the Division Chief. The incumbent will independently perform various carpentry duties on historic and non-historic buildings and other park infrastructure. A variety of woodworking methods and techniques will be employed and work will include the use of a range of hand and power woodworking tools. Minor maintenance and adjustments on tools and equipment will be performed. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Physical demands include lifting heavy objects, such as beams and rafters, as well as working in both indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to all types of weather, temperatures, and insects. Incumbent works in shops, and at construction and repair sites. Climbs ladders and scaffolds. Work requires reaching overhead, bending, kneeling and other awkward positions. Carry objects up to 40 pounds and will occasionally lift or move items with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Some work is performed in shop areas where worker is exposed to moderate to high noise levels and dust. Exposed to hazards associated while working on scaffolds or ladders. Subject to cuts, bruises, slivers, and falling objects. Uses protective equipment such as ear plugs, eye protection, breathing protection, gloves, and helmets. AREA INFORMATION/HOUSING INFORMATION: Saint-Gaudens NHS is located in Cornish, New Hampshire, which is a rural area. The nearest community is Windsor, Vermont, which is three miles away. It has a population of approximately 3,500 and the usual amenities (hospital, churches, lodging, stores, transportation). Larger nearby communities include West Lebanon, NH (11 miles north) and Claremont, NH (10 miles south). Temperatures range from -10 F to +40 F in the winter and +50 F to +95 F in the summer. precipitation is approximately 35 inches annually. The park is open from Memorial Day weekend to the end of October. Examples of experience for this position include: experience performing carpentry work; modification and repair carpentry work following work orders, sketches or easily understood blueprints; repair and installation of structural items such as rafters, door and window frames, indoor and outdoor trim; develop work sketches and drawings.
