ABOUT THE TEAM
This Casualty Underwriting Consultant role offers the opportunity to join a small and dedicated team of 6 senior Property and Casualty underwriters with responsibility for making high level case and account underwriting decisions to enable the delivery of the underwriting strategy within the company. We are looking for a capable and talented individual to provide expertise with a particular focus on liability. A specific goal of the team is to further increase the overall standard of casualty underwriting experience via education, training and up-skilling and to deliver continuous improvement. Your personal profile and credibility with both internal and external contacts will be essential to deliver the necessary change and results.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as the UW referral point for casualty classes of business and cascade technical expertise
- Ensure UW quality in line with to Underwriting strategy through:
- Working with the Casualty Underwriting Manager on casualty specific initiatives
- Development and coaching of underwriting staff
- Instilling high performance of underwriting team
- Undertaking timely and appropriate quality control checks
- Design and delivery of training material for Underwriting Academy
- Provide technical input in to underwriting manual
- Act as a market representative for Underwriting matters within the team
- Resolve complaints and breaches in line with company policy
- Where appropriate, act as company underwriting representative with 3rd party providers and business partners
ESSENTIAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Proven track record in a senior Casualty Underwriting role
- The ability to coach for enhanced performance of others
- The ability to build and manage co-operative and productive relationships
- The ability to apply critical thinking to situations outside of normal Underwriting guidelines and to frame appropriate solutions
- Proven ability to communicate and negotiate with external and internal contacts at a range of levels, including customers and trade associations
