Category Development Analyst

Reports to: Snr. Manager Trade Marketing / Shopper Insights

Support Category Development activities for North America Commercial organization. Under supervision of Trade Marketing Manager, to provide account/market specific analysis to drive sales and profits, leveraging all available data resources including syndicated services, competitive services, consumer research, and category management tools to drive sales within specific retail environments. Category Development Analyst is responsible for the accuracy of and quality of the analysis. Promote understanding of category/item/sales dynamics both internally and externally. Excellent analytical skills to support fields sales and marketing in category development.

  1. Support sales organization - customer line reviews, internal reports, new item presentations, buying trend analysis.
  2. Utilize "best practices" category management approach and tools for customer account strategies and presentations.
  3. Conduct shelf analysis to ensure Private Brands Group is getting fair share.
  4. Research and utilize emerging analytic techniques to maximize sales and profits.
  5. Focus on marketing fundamentals and identify areas in need of adjustment regarding pricing, plan-o-gram positioning, packaging and promotion.
  6. Develop and present comprehensive selling stories designed to maximize brand distribution, plan-o-gram presence, and sales growth through a thorough understanding of the retail environment, syndicated data, account POS and consumer research.
  7. Conduct ongoing business analysis including new item tracking, account specific reports, business/category reviews, account scorecarding, and pricing evaluations. This includes (but is not limited to) building and analyzing retailer syndicated databases to track account consumption, shipments and profit results.
  8. Track and analyze new item launch and consumption for category items including competitive items.

10. Maintain and manage repository of competitive product photos, trade ads, FSI's, in store promotion activity, archive syndicated data, archive reports. In some cases category development analyst will develop new repositories, utilize third party repositories and tools and add to archive data.

11. Develop and make presentations in front of customers, associates, management and partners.

Bachelor of Science from an accredited college or university with a concentration in Business/Marketing-related discipline.

Minimum 2 years of syndicated data/POS analysisMinimum 2 years working with Nielsen database
