POSITION SUMMARY:
Develops Category Business Plans that include assortment, placement, pricing and promotion through the use of proper analysis to ensure fact-based consumer centric decisions. Monitors and make changes to these plans and strategies as needed to achieve desired sales and profitability targets.Is the company expert in assigned categories and consumer insights. Achieves best possible Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) by leveraging banner synergies, distribution efficiencies, and store execution, while supporting banner specific consumer offers.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Develops and manages Category Business Plans that include strategies and tactics for assortment, placement, pricing, and promotion to achieve sales and profitability targets. Makes decisions regarding assortment, new and discontinued items, utilizing internal and external systems and relationship pricing principles to maximize SKU and assortment mix, space allocation, sales, profits and advertising effectiveness. Includes consumer insights data in all fact based decisions
- Responsible for the development, quality, strategic positioning, tactics, pricing and penetration of Own Brands
- Creates destination items or categories that are unique to our banners
- Recommends pricing strategies for categories and retail prices for individual items. Ensures compliance with overall pricing policy as they relate to gross profit and competitiveness.
- Monitors all competitive and industry activities (including trends, fads, etc.) regarding merchandising, marketing, assortment, pricing and promotions. Modifies category plans as needed to be responsive to customer needs.
- Monitors market conditions affecting supply and pricing. Works closely with the Inventory Management team and the Supply and Logistics department to ensure timely and accurate deliveries, and reasonable warehouse and store inventory levels
- Develops clear and timely communication of all strategies and programs
- Accountable for coaching and developing Asst. Category Manager to assume role as Category Manager.
- Follows all company policies with regard to vendor deals
- Supplies support depts. (Marketing, CDM, etc..) with accurate and timely work products
- Develops and maintains vendor relationships that reflect the Core Values and Success Factors that allow the Company to be the retail partner of choice for the suppliers.
- Develops plans and processes to reduce shrink and improve store productivity
- Advocates for system or workflow process improvements.
SPECIAL SKILLS, TRAINING, OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelors degree in Business Management
- MBA preferred
- 5-7 years experience in retail supermarket operations
- Proficient in MS Excel
- Proficient in Retek Merchandising suite (RMS, RDW)
- Proficient in 3rd Party consumer insights software (Neilson, IRI, )
- Excellent communication skills a must, both verbal and written
- Excellent in negotiating and managing agreements with vendors
- Excellent computer skills to include Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
