Center for Thrombosis Research – Clinical Scientist

Located in downtown Orlando, Florida Hospital Orlando is the main Florida Hospital campus in Central Florida and uses the latest technology to treat more than 126,000 inpatients and 53,600 outpatients annually. This 1,067-bed, acute-care community hospital also serves as a major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America.

At Florida Hospital, our primary customers are patients and families. Our partners are physicians and our team members are all employees of Florida Hospital.         

 

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Clinical Scientist I will be required to perform high complexity testing on a continuous cycle on a daily basis, accurately and promptly within a dynamic, rapidly changing environment.  He/she will undergo rigorous bench and theoretical training for and be expected to keep pace with advances in this specialist area. Once fully trained, he/she will be required to work independently with little to no supervision at weekends and holidays.  He/she will actively participate in biomedical research projects with rapidly changing technical requirements, priorities, and deadlines.  He/she must be able to accurately document research data in a clear and concise manner for use in final technical reports for subsequent publications and scientific presentations. He/she must be able to maintain composure under pressure, be flexible to accommodate rapidly changing priorities.  In this way, the position holder will actively contribute to providing outstanding customer service, accept responsibility for maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all, and will clearly demonstrate accountability for his/her own actions and decisions. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

·         Technically competent

·         Exhibit a professional attitude and conduct, possess the ability to communicate at different levels of education, in particular be able to converse clearly and concisely one-on-one with physicians, and maintain composure under pressure

·         Capable of performing multiple concomitant assignments in a timely manner.  The position holder will, after completing extensive specialist bench and theory training, be able to work independently and competently, with little to no supervision and report accurately and clearly on complex technical issues.

·         Demonstrable competent Microsoft Office computer skills

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS PREFERRED:

·         Evidence of ability to comfortably work independently and troubleshoot technical issues

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

·         Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a clinical laboratory science

·         Prior experience and competency in highly complex clinical laboratory testing

·         If in Thrombosis Research (5580) - Three (3) years experience in high complexity clinical laboratory testing

 

 

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

·         Bachelor's degree in medical technology

·         Experience in the specific, high complexity clinical specialty (Hematology and Blood Bank)

·         Experience in clinical combined with research laboratory environment

 

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED

·         State of Florida Medical Technologist Licensure in the required specialty:

o   If in Cellular Therapy (2990) - Hematology and Blood Transfusion

o   If in Thrombosis Research (5580)- Hematology, Immunology/Serology, and Clinical Chemistry

o   If in Molecular Diagnostics (7121) - Hematology, Immunology/Serology, Clinical Chemistry, Blood Transfusion, and/or Molecular Diagnostics, as appropriate for the position

 

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:

·         If in Thrombosis Research (5580), State of Florida Medical Technologist Licensure in Molecular Diagnostics specialty
