Position Title: Certified Medical Assistant

 

Job Overview:

 

The Certified Medical Assistant is primarily responsible to enhance the overall efficiency of the outpatient practice(s) of the Drexel University College of Medicine, Department of Medicine, by assisting the physicians with appointments and clinical procedures.  This position is primarily responsible for clerical duties such as appointment scheduling, coordinating and monitoring appointments using the IDX system, scheduling and precertification of inpatient/outpatient admissions and procedures.

 

Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical school and 1 year experience preferred.  Must be a Certified Medical Assistant.

 

Familiarity with IDX Scheduling system preferred, but willing to train. Must have basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Must have basic knowledge of medications and their effects on the body. Knowledge of computers use in accessing lab and x-ray results. Venipuncture skills should be very good.

 

Ability to effectively and courteously deal with patients, their families, employees, and physicians. Ability to handle multi-tasks in a busy office. Very good organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to exhibit maturity and professional attitude at all times.  Must be a Team player, enthusiastic, and motivated.  Excellent attendance record.

 

Essential Functions:

Work Front desk greeting and checking in of all patients and the verifying of demographic information.

 

Scheduling duties include the prompt and courteous answering of a multi-line phone system, triaging call as needed.

 

Prepare patients for their visit with the physician.  Functions may include bringing patients to the exam rooms, taking vital signs, etc.

 

Keep all exam rooms clean, well stocked and ready for use.  This includes preparing instruments and ensuring that equipment is in proper working condition, preparing charts.

 

Rotation in the Medical Records room which would include organizing overall patient records and information.

 

File received correspondence, labs and test results.

 

Exhibit excellence in positive customer relations and foster mature and professional attitude at all times.

 

Follow established University and Departmental precautions and procedures in the performance of all job duties to ensure a safe work environment.  Adhere to university policies regarding safety, confidentiality and HIPPA guidelines.

 

Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
