Title: Certified Medical Assistant

 

Schedule: Regular 40.0 hours

 

Location: Roswell, Georgia

 

Pay: Based on experience

 

Job Description: Under the direction of Physician(s) and Practice Manager, serves as a primary assistant to physician. Practices high quality medical care in performing a variety of patient care activities such as preparation for appointments, minor exams and procedures, laboratory and maintenance controls, patient documentation, and various office duties.

Patient and Appointment Preparation:


Prepares examination rooms for patient visits, including cleaning, sterilizing, stocking supplies. Escorts patients to exam rooms and assists in obtaining pertinent information, which may include obtaining vital signs, weight, height, health history, and symptoms. Maintains optimum patient flow by keeping exam rooms occupied with patients for office visits.

Performs Exams/Procedures:

Upon request, assists the Provider (physician, PA) with examinations and minor office surgeries. May assist with instrument handling and exam/procedure preparation. May collect lab specimens (blood draws, urine, saliva) and perform on-site lab testing including collecting samples for slides centrifuge and/or cultures. Performs various tests: EKG; blood glucose testing; hemocults; urine pregnancy tests; pulmonary function testing; spirometry; and vision testing. Changes dressings, applies bandages, casts, and performs other first aid procedures. Carries out CPR in patient emergent situations. 
Performs intramuscular, subcutaneous and nebulizer medications with Site Physician (s) authorization.

Quality Control Procedures:

Conducts appropriate laboratory and sterilization controls and maintains appropriate documentation. Performs autoclaving duties upon completion of sterilization certification education. Disposes of biohazardous wastes according to OSHA standards. Cleans, disinfects and/or sterilizes instruments and equipment following safety and OSHA standards. Performs routine maintenance on medical equipment. Maintains departmental logs assuring adherence to DMG Safety/OSHA and blood borne pathogen policies and procedures.

Patient Documentation:

Documents patient information into their chart, including current medications, reasons for the visit, and patient vitals. Assures that lab, x-ray, and other test results are placed correctly in the patient chart. Prepares charts as per guidelines. Completes all necessary ancillary service requisition slips. Familiarizes oneself with necessary paperwork and is able to identify and complete it. Based on need and direction, provides patients with written department visit policies, HIPPA Rights, medical literature, etc.

Assists in Coverage:

Assists with pharmacy callbacks after demonstrating an understanding of medications. Performs patient callbacks as instructed by Provider. Provides office coverage during vacations, absences, and/or breaks and lunches.

Office Duties:

Calls for hazardous waste pick-ups as necessary. Answers telephones and takes appropriate messages. Orders supplies to replenish materials used by staff.

Other Duties as Assigned:


Receptionist:

Front desk reception. May perform patient registration and scheduling. Confirm appointments and insurance coverage. Processes mail.

Education and/or Training Required:

Completion of American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) accredited program. Current and active certification through the AAMA or AMT (governing body of the RMA).

Experience Required:

Preferred one year experience in a medical setting such as a physician office.

Typical Environmental/Working conditions:

Conditions common to a clinic environment including communicable disease, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and toxic substances. Fast-paced medical office environment involving contact and interaction with patients, physicians, and other clinical and clerical personnel.

Typical Physical/Mental Demands:

Activities include holding, carrying, pushing, transferring, and pulling of objects and people, safely. Manual and finger dexterity, handle or feel, hand-eye coordination, bending, kneeling, crouching, frequent sitting, walking and/or standing for extended periods of time. Must be able to safely lift a minimum of 30 pounds. Requires vision correctable to 20/20 and hearing in the normal range for face-to-face and telephone contacts. Work may be under stressful conditions.
