Lakeshore Medical Clinic, Ltd. (LMC), one of Milwaukee's premier multi-specialty outpatient medical group practices currently has several openings for Certified Professional Coders. CPC or CCS-P Certification is Required. At least 2 years experience in medical coding. Must be a self-starter and motivated. Computer experience, including MS Excel and Word is essential. Good research, verbal and written communication skills is a must.
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Coder performs all aspects of billing-related coding duties as assigned by Coding Documentation/QI Manager.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Successfully obtained Professional Coder certification through AHIMA or AAPC – includes those with apprentice designation.
- Medical Coding Experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Computer proficiency, including at least 2 years of experience with an automated system.
- Precise and strict attention to detail.
- An understanding and commitment to company-wide, departmental and team goals.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Previous medical coding experience.
- Certification (CPC).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Codes all encounter forms thoroughly and accurately, using good judgement skills, via electronic coding/billing application.
- Proficiently uses Encoder Pro software and CPT, HCPCS, ICD-9 books, as required.
- Logs all batches that are submitted to Charge Entry. This log will be turned into the Coding Clerk to tally on a weekly basis.
- Writes Provider Transmittal inquiries to LMC clinics for more information needed, etc.
- Provides Auditors with an explanation on encounter forms that may require a Provider Analysis and/or Education.
- Follows all internal department procedures and maintain compliance with LMC policies and procedures.
- Coding information updates will be provided by manager/lead.
- Informs Coding Supervisor of any potential fraudulent issues that are encountered.
- Follows federal, state and local regulations as they pertain to coding.
