Chief Accountant
The Chief accountant is assistant and deputy to the Head of Finance. She/he reports regularly to the management on the Laboratory’s financial situation and the state of EMBL and external funding. Her/his responsibilities include:
- Overall responsibility for maintaining the accounts including period closures
- Maintaining and developing the accounting system
- Supervising the accounting staff
- Control of cash flow and placing of funds with banks as well as daily monitoring of the Laboratory’s banking transactions and standing orders
- Processing the finances of EMBO/EMBL courses, guesthouses, refund of value-added and insurance taxes
- Production of monthly financial status reports
- Preparation of EMBL annual financial statements
- Dealing with contributions from Member States
The person appointed will be expected to establish a good working relationship with other administrative departments and with the internal and external auditors. Duties also include training new staff and keeping up to date with relevant data processing developments. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing, leading and motivating the Finance team and she/he reports directly to the Head of Finance.
