Chief Compliance Officer recruitment
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership, strategic direction and administration over all aspects of the Compliance department
- Prepare, communicate and document all Compliance policies and procedures
- Formulate and communicate department strategies and objectives
- Perform departmental management duties including selection, performance management and employee development
- Develop and communicate strategic vision that effectively manages and minimizes risk, establishes proper controls and supports business initiatives and protects the firm from legal and regulatory risk
- Supervise the headquarters Compliance department and coordinate branch compliance operations and examinations
- Maintain written supervisory procedures, and monitor daily operations and activities of all proprietary trading desks
- Regularly interact and advise retail brokers, advisors, proprietary traders and clients
- Work closely with the heads of Operations, Corporate Finance, Equity Research, Retail Sales and IT
- Proactively and positively advocate compliance policies, continuing education and other compliance activities within the firm
- Act as firm liaison with regulators and respond to all regulatory inquiries; liaise with outside counsel or accountants as needed
- Identify and monitor trends in internal and external (regulatory/industry) environments and assess their impact on the organization
- Research complex compliance issues and report recommendations to management
- Respond to Rep/employee compliance-related questions
- Research and respond to investigations and complaints
- Act as spokesperson for any compliance issues
- Research regulations and communicate any findings with Reps, their staff or other internal employees
- Maintain required registrations and filings
- Develop proactive compliance tools
- Prepare department reports for CEO and CFO
- Provide compliance training to new employees
- Actively participate in broker/dealer industry compliance organizations
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills Experience:
- 7+ years’ experience in a senior compliance role is required; prior management experience is preferred
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of advanced training and experience; must hold Series 7, 24 and/or series 65/66 industry licenses or equivalent
- CRCP designation is desired
- Strong knowledge of current SEC, FINRA, ERISA, DOL and other rules and regulations governing broker-dealers and investment advisors is strongly preferred
- Prior proprietary trading, equity research and corporate banking compliance experience is also desired
- Strong working knowledge of mutual funds and individual securities is required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface professionally with all levels of the organization
- Ability to identify and analyze compliance issues
- Knowledge of compliance policies, procedures and best practices
- Ability to develop effective Compliance systems and workflows
- Must be able to function cooperatively, provide leadership and build consensus on compliance issues among managers, employees and registered representatives
- Ability to exercise sound business judgment and resolve problems
- Must work well under stress or pressure with ability to meet any deadlines as necessary
- Ability to formulate and implement department strategies
- Possess solid MS Office skills
