Chief Engineer Mechanical Design Development
Location: Coventry
Reporting to: Manufacturing Director
A highly experienced Mechanical Design Engineer is required for this permanent position based in Coventry. As an accomplished team manager youll lead a team in design, development and testing of an innovative new product.
Purpose of the Role:
The Chief Engineer is responsible for the Design, Development and Test of new products. The role involves significant management responsibility, but it is primarily a hands-on requiring excellent Design Development skills. This requires a cohesive approach between Departments and the rigor to ensure that relevant systems and procedures are followed.
Main Duties:
To provide technical leadership for new product Design, Development, Integration Test and VA/VE Activities.
Project planning budgeting to achieve timely delivery of appropriate technical solutions for agreed work packages
Development of internal processes for Design Management Quality
Technical Responsibility:
Mechanical Design
- New Product Introduction
- Continuous Improvement of Existing Products (including VA/VE)
Development Test
Engineering Change Control
PDM 3-D CAD operation management
Line Management Responsibility:
Management of a multi-disciplinary engineering team including:
- Mechanical Design
- Prototype Build
- Development Test
Project Management Responsibility:
Time, Resource budget estimates for workload planning
Resource allocation utilisation,
Achieving delivery to agreed timescales
Support for agreed Control Systems development activity
Required Qualifications Experience:
5 - 10 years experience in a relevant senior engineering role
Competent user of 3D-CAD, including FEA
Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant Engineering discipline
Direct involvement in the successful design development of Mechatronic Systems and complex assemblies requiring precise alignment accurate motion control
Experience in all aspects of new product development test requirements, implementation and reporting
Proven experience of New product introduction into low volume manufacture
Excellent communication skills
Computer literate, Windows based applications
Desirable Skills Experience:
Design development of printing equipment / paper handling machinery
Concurrent Engineering methodology
Product validation testing
Recent experience with SolidWorks 3D-CAD package
Salary £50-55k + excellent benefits.
