Job Description:
Fast-growing team in Pittsburgh, PA within the Private Banking and Investment Group at Merrill Lynch is seeking an experienced investment officer to oversee management of assets in excess of $700 million. The right candidate will serve as the senior investment professional for an 11 person team and lead the team in constructing and managing complex portfolios. This person will also direct the investment committee which -- among other things -- establishes strategic and tactical portfolio posture and guides risk management for the portfolio globally. The right person will excel in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and must be able to effectively implement the vision, mission and strategic goals set forth by the Team.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Research and remain current with global financial markets, as well as economic and political news/trends
- Aggregate and distill relevant information from proprietary and external sources
- Oversee external manager selection and removal processes within portfolios consisting of SMAs, mutual funds, ETFs and alternatives for ultra high net worth clients in an open architecture environment
- Manage discretionary asset pools for client portfolios
- Maintain responsibility for supervision of all asset classes including equities, fixed income, cash, and, where applicable, alternative asset classes (I.e., Hedge funds, private equity, managed futures, derivatives, options, etc)
Requirements:
- 10+ years investment management experience, with 5 years in management of multiple asset portfolios
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, or a related degree preferred
- CFA, CIMA, CAIA professional designation is a plus
- FINRA Series 7 and 66 (Otherwise, obtained within first 6 months)
- High ethical standards

- Solid understanding of the financial markets and genuine interest in economics and capital markets, with the ability to communicate the impact of financial conditions succinctly
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
- Ability to synthesize information quickly and to prioritize tasks, while balancing the needs of multiple constituencies and deadlines
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Decisiveness combined with a commitment to foster a collaborative work environment
- Strong understanding of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Exposure to PSN, Zephyr, Bloomberg and/or Charles River platforms is an asset
