The Chief of Staff within the Office of Information Technology (OIT) at the University of Minnesota provides direct strategic, communications and administrative support for the Vice President and Chief Information Officer (VPCIO). This position is critical for the effective management of the Office of the VPCIO and ensures the efficient exchange of information in and out of the office. This position is also responsible for attending high-level meetings on behalf of the VPCIO and preparing executive summaries. Additionally, this position will serve as a liaison between OIT and other University departments and organizations. The Chief of Staff is expected to have an understanding of and an appreciation for technology, and also demonstrate strong initiative, resourcefulness, and sound independent judgment in handling a wide variety of complex and specialized strategic, communications, and administrative functions. The Chief of Staff is appointed by and serves at the direction of the VPCIO. Job duties include, but are not limited to strategic support, communications support, and administrative Support.
We seek candidates meeting the following qualifications:
- BA/BS degree in Business, Communications, English, Journalism, Political Science or other field, and at least five years of relevant work experience.
- Demonstrated skill and ability to provide executive-level support, including handling of sensitive and confidential information.
- Proficient in performing basic research and preparing reports and recommendations.
- Excellent English language skills, including a superior knowledge of vocabulary usage, composition (spelling and grammar), editing, proofreading, and knowledge of various report and journal styles. Ability to read and comprehend college-level material and extract information as needed.
- Experience with preparing and/or incorporating complex computerized reports, charts, tables, graphs, slides, and other materials.
- Superior computer software skills (Mac and Windows) including MS Office suite and various e-mail clients and internet browsers.
