The Chief Operating Officer is responsible for overseeing and monitoring the day-to-day operations of BSNC and subsidiaries, improving efficiency and effectiveness of business activities, government contracts, and private industry projects. Determines and formulates strategic planning, policies, business strategies, and provides overall direction of the Company’s Business Operations. Plans, directs and coordinates operational activities at the highest level of management with the help of subordinate executives and managers in support of parent company policies, goals and objectives, as established by the President/CEO. Heads, plans, oversees, and coordinates the entire operation of BSNC and subsidiaries, affiliates, and joint ventures toward the achievement of established operating objectives. Responsible for the establishment and attainment of short- and long-term financial and operational goals. Directs the development of the organization to ensure future growth. As a member of the senior management team, this position is held to the highest ethical standards and has the legal responsibility of protecting the assets of the corporation. ESSENTIAL DUTIES RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Guides and leads other members of management. Directs activities of operating divisions of the company and other company units as assigned to achieve the established operating goals and objectives. Normally responsible for oversight and direction of subordinate company officers (i.e., subsidiary presidents reports to the COO).
- Evaluates operating results throughout the organization to ensure that organization growth and objectives are being met.
- Evaluates and advises on the impact of short- term and long- range planning to the growth of the Company.
- Evaluates the results of overall operations regularly and systematically and reports these results to the president and Board of Directors, as appropriate.
- Reviews financial information, sales and activity reports, and other performance data to measure productivity and assure business objectives are achieved.
- Creates the structure and processes necessary to manage the organization's current activities and its projected growth.
- Maintains a sound plan of corporate organization, establishing policies to ensure adequate management development and to provide for capable management succession.
- Develops and installs procedures and controls to promote communication and adequate information flow within the organization.
- Ensures that the responsibilities, authorities, and accountability of all direct subordinates are defined and understood.
- Serves as BSNC management and assumes various internal and external leadership roles and responsibilities to produce tangible and positive progress towards achieving Company objectives. Assists the CEO in public relations activities and attend conferences and other networking opportunities that facilitate business, partnership, marketing, or other opportunities.
- Monitors the capital expenditure and asset redeployment activities.
- Provides leadership and education in BSNC’s culture of shareholder and village economic development, zero-incident safety, and delivery of excellent work product and service to customers/clients. Assumes personal accountability and responsibility for delivery and maintenance of aforementioned requirements.
- Supports and assists BSNC’s efforts to identify, obtain and perform new work opportunities to achieve the financial and growth targets.
- Works with the CEO and division heads to develop a multi-year operating plan and identify key elements required to implement and deliver against the plan.
- Develops, implements, and manages the annual operations plan and budget and put in place necessary infrastructure, personnel, or other resources required to execute the plan.
- Champions a Quality culture to ensure Company and customer quality standards, regulatory compliance, and processes to improve performance throughout the Company.
- Establishes and maintains an internal periodic management review process that measures and evaluates progress towards goals for the organization.
- Provides a strong, inspirational day-to-day leadership presence and supports an open door policy.
- Ensure personnel comply with Company and customer policies and procedures.
- Oversees the adequacy and soundness of the organization's financial structure. Ensures that all organization activities and operations comply with applicable regulations and laws.
- Directs the consideration of all mergers, joint ventures, the acquisition of businesses, or the sale of major assets. Represents the organization with major customers, shareholders, the business community, the public, and with potential clients.
- Consistently demonstrate examples of remarkable creativity and skills in structuring assigned activities, management teamwork, communications, operational efficiencies, handling of client/customer/shareholder changing needs, decision making, developing employees/shareholders, and analyzing and solving quantitative business problems.
- Other related duties may also be assigned.
MANDATORY JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform the job successfully, an incumbent should meet or exceed the following requirements:
- Bachelor Degree in Business, Management, or another related field from an accredited college or university.
- Must have 10-15 years of managerial experience, which demonstrates successful experience operating several diverse business operations (i.e., operations of a mid-size company with multiple locations; experience in a general management position at senior levels and a demonstrated track record of increasing levels of responsibility.
- Must have 10 years designated professional experience and knowledge of common business laws and regulations.
- Must have developed peer relationships within the industry and have established relationships with selected industry clients.
- Proven ability in providing strategic vision and positive leadership to drive business growth in a financial services company.
- Sound administrative skills, well-developed management skills—principles and people.
- Strong analytical and reasoning abilities.
- Must have the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with senior staff.
- Must have the ability to equilibrate priorities and organize work effectively to meet deadlines.
- Experience in a diversity of industries, preferably with emphasis in government contracting operations.
- Superior leadership skills, having the ability to motivate, develop and direct people as they work, identifying the best people for the job.
- Business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods and coordination of people and resources.

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters Degree in Business Management/Administration.
- Mergers and acquisitions experience.
- Knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to the Inupiat and Yup’ik culture.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
The work environment is a modern and quiet office setting, where employee should be familiar with common office equipment such as postage equipment, printers, copiers, and fax machines. Work is mostly performed from a sedentary posture. The employee is regularly required to hear, talk, sit and use hands and fingers to operate a keyboard and phone. The employee may be occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and lift, handle, or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
