Chief Risk Officer – Commodities recruitment
Reporting directly into the CFO of the Ags business and the Global Risk Officer, you will responsible for the Risk across the Ags business. You will evaluate the risk of the potential loss in the trading book due to adverse market moves, providing high quality flexible analysis service within the Market Risk department. The successful candidate will advise on quantitative and modelling issues to help the business maximise value, and control risk exposure.
To be effective within this position you’ll need to be fully aware of all new trades, new structures, and the flow across the business. The role will require a pro-active approach to building relationships and good communication channels with the trading desks in order to learn their views of the risk and reward of the positions. You will need to have the knowledge and ability to exercise prudent judgment in creating and calibrating the appropriate risk measures, even if the resulting outcome isn’t in line with what the Traders perception of Risk might be. You will need to have the gravitas to deal with conflicts in the perception of risk, and have the ability to demonstrate a clear and logical argument that will your methodology regarding the risk calculation.
Some of the responsibilities within this role will include:
• Fully understanding and implementing trading concepts demonstrating familiarity with the Agricultural products markets or similar commodity markets to identify the main influences that drive changes in prices and price relationships
• Ensuring that the team are calculating and reporting daily risk analysis on trading books
• Making sure that the team are maintaining the price databases
• Undertaking assessments of a wide range of transactions, carrying out the relevant modeling and analysis as necessary
• Advising upon, and directly contributing to ongoing system and model development for the measurement of risk, carrying out model reviews to help ensure best practice is followed
• Ensuring that all results are communicated effectively with traders and senior management
• Proactively identifying, preempting, and communicating issues that may cause a surprise, and ensuring that reports or measurements present a true reflection of this.
• To regularly engage in discussion with traders and management about exposure taken
It is essential that you have previous Senior Level Risk management experience within Commodities, with Agricultural experience obviously advantageous. A solid understanding of VaR is also highly desirable, but could be offset against substantial Agricultural Products experience. In return they are offering a more than competitive package dependent upon experience plus relocation costs if needed.
