The client is the North American business of an A-rated Foreign Bank with assets of over USD$1Tn. Strategy
• In conjunction with the other Executive Committee members, formulate the strategic direction of North America and monitor performance of the business to ensure the 5 year plan is achieved
• Lead and establish a coherent and strategic plan for Risk across North America in support of the delivery of the overall Banking Group strategy whilst managing relationships across divisional boundaries.
Performance
• Monitor delivery and recommend changes to the Risk Plan and priorities to ensure the strategy for North America is effectively implemented.
• Develop Risk Management processes that identify where risks arise and what drives losses, improving systems and processes to optimise and manage risks.
• Engage the business by advising/consulting with business divisions in understanding risk management strategies, policies and requirements, assisting the business to continually assess and refine their risk management practices and embedding a risk aware culture throughout the organisation.
Relationships
• The Chief Risk Officer is a member of the North America Executive Committee, Asset Liability Committee and Chair of the Portfolio Risk Committee and North America Risk Committee.
• Lead and develop a team of 50+ risk professionals (both direct and in-direct).
• Serve as the North America’s Senior Sanction Officer and as a risk signatory on the Bank’s Credit Committee.
• Maintain relationships with the Bank’s North American regulators and the Bank’s internal control framework.
Essential Knowledge/Skills/Experience
• Strong understanding of corporate and structured credit across Corporate Finance, Structured Credit and Capital Markets with previous sanctioning authority within a Commercial bank environment.
• Strong understanding of risks involved in a markets business including market, legal, conduct risks etc.
• Deep understanding of US regulatory environment (ie. Broker Dealer, Commercial, BSA/AML requirements) with a proven history of strong management of regulatory relationships with Federal/ State examiners and FINRA.
• Strong leadership capability with experience in building and leading highly successful teams who consistently excel. Ability to initiate, innovate and manage change – operational, management, people and cultural.
• Previous experience in operating in a matrix management atmosphere and dealing with Executive Committees and stakeholder management.
