Job Description

The Business Controller is primarily responsible from the integrity of the financial statements of the Line of Business. He/she is responsible for ensuring full financial control and substantiation of business results (revenues, capital and balance sheet). The role's responsibilities and functions include the following:

Description of Role
- Ensure that financials adhere to GAAP; implement new accounting policies
- Provide guidance on accounting for products, liaising with Accounting Policy group where appropriate and ensuring compliance with Corporate Regulatory requirements
- Working with the business to ensure that they fully understand developments in financial reporting and priorities, i.e. changes to the Capital framework, the impact of Risk Weighted Assets, revenue recognition on structured deals etc.
- Details analysis on the PL (Understand and explain drivers of daily PL, Volcker explain, produce monthly commentaries on earnings and review of monthly final PL information sent to the business.)
- Understand and review the month end balance sheet

- Supports requirements for standard business performance information. This includes the review of monthly financial performance reports for the business and Legal Entity reporting including commentary of comparatives and of significant revenue items and trends.
- Understand and oversee corporate regulatory reporting requirements (such as FVO FVM reporting)
- Understand and oversee corporate risk reporting requirements (RWA calculation in accordance with Basel II and Basel III)
- Understanding contributing to the various control frameworks; Control Self Assessment (CSA), Sarbanes Oxley, Business Control Committees (BCC's) and New Business Initiative Approval (NBIA)
- Interact with finance teams in other Emerging Markets locations, coordinate effort and centralize information
- Co-ordinate with Legal Entity Controllers centrally and in countries to ensure financial statement integrity and adherence to regulatory and disclosure requirements

Qualifications:

- Strong understanding of accounting principles with particular emphasis in trading products
- Capacity to summarise complex information and deliver it at business executive level
- Strong inter-personal skills
- Highly motivated, energetic self-starter
- Good relationship building skills and comfortable with business contact
- Positive can-do attitude looking to add value across the breadth of the business
- Ability to multitask and prioritize conflicting needs
- Knowledge of JPM financial systems while not essential would be of significant benefit in this role
