SUMMARY/GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES
:
To serve as a civil engineering designer, performing design duties in support of the Guam Engineering Office.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES JOB FUNCTIONS:

Acts as the designer on all civil engineering related design aspects of assigned projects assigned to insure design requirements are complete and to deliver complete project requirements, using AutoCAD Civil 3D and MS Office software.

Consults with engineers to discuss and interpret design concepts, and determine requirements of detailed working drawings.

Performs civil engineering design for new construction, renovation, and improvement projects for a variety of facilities, including utility systems, Develops plans and specifications for: horizontal layout, grading, geotechnical, water distribution, sanitary sewer, storm drainage analysis, and other design components that would normally be associated for use in facilities such as multi-story office buildings, housing areas, warehouses, restaurants, hospitals and communication structures.

Coordinates with other engineering functions, environmental, safety, managers and staff elements.

Coordinates projects with other designers in other disciplines or with architects.
Applies knowledge of other disciplines to determine coordination effort required to address various design considerations.

Complies with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment.
Observes that federal, state, and local codes concerning health, safety, and environment are adhered to in the programming, design and construction of facilities.

Keeps abreast of emerging technologies for programmed development.
Uses computers/computer software such as information management programs, computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) programs, and project tracking programs to solve engineering problems and facilitate work.
Keeps current on relevant software applications.

Researches code requirements and relays information to design team and design supervisor.
·
Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.

Works with mathematical and structural concepts.
·
Performs engineering calculations to size and specify civil engineering system components.
·
Assists engineers to implement operating procedures, design systems and provide technical information.
·
Researches and analyzes design requests, specifications and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs.

Performs civil engineering analyses, operational studies, and technical investigations to identify and select the best solution for design projects.
·
Performs other duties as assigned.
