AKM Consulting Engineers is a multi-disciplined professional organization that specializes in providing engineering and related services to public agencies.  From our offices located in Irvine, California, where approximately 25 professionals are employed, AKM can provide immediate, responsive and effective service to clients.  The scope of services offered by AKM includes all facets of planning, modeling, design and construction support for wastewater and drainage projects and facilities. We are looking to hire an experienced civil engineer to work in the Inland Empire area.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Chief Engineer, has responsibility for the design and construction of a variety of water production, treatment, and distribution facilities and structures, and the installation of related equipment.

JOB DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsible for a variety of tasks and duties, which may include, but would not be limited to, the following:

·         Prepare designs in accordance with applicable codes and standards.

·         Assist in the preparation of annual capital budgets.

·         Prepare plans, calculations, specifications, bid requests, and cost estimates of materials and labor.

·         Design and evaluate water distribution systems, and perform hydraulic modeling and analyses.

·         Prepare technical reports and analyses.

·         Develop and/or recommend revisions of company standard drawings and specifications.

·         Identify and recommend corrective action for design discrepancies.

·         Develop timelines and follow-up to assure on-time completion of projects.

·         Visit construction sites to review construction progress and prepare construction progress reports.

·         Provide construction management and administration support.

·         Attend construction site meetings and provide a wide range of technical field support.

·         Coordinate and communicate with a variety of contractors and public agency representatives.

·         Represent the company at meetings with public agencies, contractors, and developers.

·         Prepare permit application packages and secure construction permits.

·         Prepare reports, exhibits and testimony for filing with and presentations to the California Public Utilities Commission ("CPUC").

·         Review drafts of exhibits and check cost estimates for use in Division of Rate Payer Advocates data request responses and conduct the preparation and filing of General Rate Cases with the "CPUC".

·         Respond to "CPUC" data requests and prepare reports required by "CPUC".

·         Conduct economic cost-benefit analyses, feasibility and cost of service studies for company projects.

·         Prepare justifications for capital improvement projects.

·         Other tasks and duties as directed.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Skills, knowledge and physical requirements include, but would not be limited to:

·         Thorough knowledge of civil engineering design theory, principles, and construction practices in modern water treatment, production and distribution facilities.

·         Excellent analytical skills.

·         Familiarity with "CPUC" Rules and Regulations.

·         Thorough understanding of the company's standard drawings and specifications.

·         Thorough familiarity with the company's safety practices and procedures.

·         Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

·         Ability to write legibly and have good reading skills, as well as ability to quickly comprehend.

·         Ability to manage projects and interact with all levels of company personnel, as well as contractors, outside vendors, public agency representatives, and the general public.

·         Strong personal computer skills and knowledge of and experience with a variety of computer modeling, design and related software packages, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Microstation, GIS related software, and water distribution system modeling software.

·         Must be dependable, punctual, and have good attendance.

·         Neat and presentable professional appearance.

·         Ability to perform repetitive physical activities using feet, legs, hands, and arms, and be able to use a keyboard, walk, sit, stand, bend, stoop, climb stairs, reach, grasp, and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

The following are required:

·         Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university.

·         California Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification required.

·         Minimum of 5 years of civil engineering experience, preferably in water distribution system design.

·         Valid California driver license and acceptable driving record.
