Horizon Oil Sands
Horizon Oil Sands is an exciting part of our growth.  Full production capacity for Phase 1 is 110,000 bbl/d of fully upgraded, light, sweet synthetic crude oil.  We will see incremental production gains throughout the completion of future expansion and debottlenecking, with targeted full facility capacity of approximately 250,000 bbl/d.  Further phases of expansion will bring the ultimate capacity to 500,000 bbl/d.

This position is based in Fort McMurray, Alberta and is eligible for:
* Relocation to Calgary or Fort McMurray
* Company Sponsored Fly In/Fly Out and Camp Accommodation Program with charter flights available from Calgary or Edmonton

Position Summary

THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Civil/Structural Engineer is responsible for supporting day to day operations through engineering design of new structures and foundations and modifications to:
* Existing structures: New platforms, access ladders, pipe supports, enclosures, replacement or addition of steel to existing facilities
* New structures with foundations and civil works: Land grading, culverts, ditches, pond linings and erosion control

HOW WILL YOU MAKE YOUR MARK?
* Prepare detailed engineering including cost estimates for work proposals, and review bid packages to contribute to increasing cost efficiency and production
* Make recommendations for changes to both new and existing structures, and through reviewing and auditing project work, assist in improving reliability, operability maintainability and safety
* Deliver completed engineering designs and specifications based on CNRL Standards and National and International codes and standards including ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), ANSI (American National Standards Institute), API (American Petroleum Institute) and more specifically ABSA (the pressure equipment safety authority) requirements
* Carry out minor survey works for small new works and infrastructure modifications
* Support detailed cost estimates by cost engineers for in-house engineering work
* Review and comment on structural engineering bid packages
* Carry out design reviews
* Carry out calculations for structural modification work and for load-lifting studies
* Assist maintenance team with procedures, and civil/structural clarification of work packages as required (field deviations requests for standards and procedures)
* Review shop drawings for structural adequacy
* Review structural fabrication processes
* Carry out squad checks on structural drawings, documents and calculations
* Conduct audits of contractors, suppliers and fabricators
* Interface with contractors
* Provide field engineering support to construction coordinators
* Attend project meetings

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Typically 8+ years of industry experience with Civil/Structural Engineering Degree
* Registration or eligibility for registration with APEGGA
* Familiarity with and understanding of:
   o Processing, mining, refining, upgrading, or Oil Sands facilities projects
   o STAAD Pro computer design, Microstation and AutoCAD
   o Experience supporting teams such as Engineering, Construction, Maintenance, Operations and EPC contractors
