The Northern California Division's Workers Compensation Department, located in Pleasanton, California, has an opening for a Claims Examiner I. Qualifications: The following are preferred or desired unless specifically stated: ? High school diploma or GED, some college preferred. ? 2-3 years Workers Compensation Claims experience. ? I.E.A. Certificate, S.I.P. Certificate a plus. ? Knowledge of Labor Code, medical terminology, permanent disability rating, case management and resolution, and Self-Insurer's rules and regulations. ? Well organized and detail oriented. ? Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and computer claims applications. ? Excellent written and oral communication skills. ? Strong investigative and negotiating skills. Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: ? Able to work independently. ? Extensive phone work and data entry. ? Extensive interaction with Safeway injured workers, store managers, Human Resources Department, and outside vendors. ? Set appropriate reserves. ? Monitor medical benefits and practice cost containment as well as problem solving. ? Calculate and provide timely payment of all benefits, process bills from vendors, and maintain diary control. ? Handle new medical/indemnity claims from beginning to final disposition. ? Negotiate settlements for non-represented cases. ? Maintain and follow-up with all correspondence including composition of letters and documents. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
