Client Systems Engineer recruitment
Our client, a 30 year-old Boston based investment management firm has an opening for a Client Systems Engineer. The firm follows an event-driven value investment philosophy with a bias toward the preservation of capital.
The ideal candidate for the role should possess the following characteristics and qualifications:
- 5 to 7 years of directly related experience; undergraduate degree strongly preferred
- Hands-on experience deploying, patching, and managing desktop and laptop computers on a large scale ( 500 systems)
- Experience using and managing deployment tools such as the Microsoft deployment tool-chain (strongly preferred), including Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager, Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, Windows Automated Installation Toolkit, Windows Deployment Services, etc., or third party solutions like LANDesk’s Management Suite or Altiris’s Management Suite, EminentWare/SolarWinds, etc.
- Hands-on experience developing, deploying and maintaining Group Policy objects for user and system management
- Deep understanding of Microsoft Windows, especially Windows 7
- Experience managing desktop and laptop computers and associated peripherals
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a collaborative structure
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline oriented environment
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple competing projects and deadlines
- Well-rounded, adaptable, accountable and responsible individual with hands-on experience in all phases of the deployment lifecycle
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Effective communication and organizational skills
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Experience with hardware component troubleshooting and replacement considered a plus
- Experience managing mobile devices (smartphones and tablets, especially iOS-based) considered a plus
- Experience in the investment management or financial services industry considered a plus
This position is a member of the Infrastructure team consisting of 5 technology professionals responsible for all aspects of technology planning, implementation, development and support for infrastructure, hardware, networking and software.
The Client Systems Engineer will also work closely with the 6 member Deskside Services team. Together these groups provide and ensure a high-performance, reliable and secure end-user computing experience. The Client Systems Engineer will be responsible for the overall care and maintenance of desktop and laptop systems at our primary Boston location, our business continuity site, and our London branch office, as well as providing support to the Deskside Services team.
Essential functions of this position will include, but are not limited to:
- Initial deployment of desktops and laptops
- Remote deployment of software applications, upgrades and patches
- Remote deployment of operating system upgrades and patches (including service packs, driver updates, etc.)
- Desktop and laptop system management and monitoring (such as performance monitoring, component failure monitoring and mitigation, etc.)
- Providing client system support to the Deskside services team and to end users
- Participation in occasional after-hours and/or weekend work
