The primary responsibility of the Clinical Pharmacist Specialist (Oncology) is the provision of evidence-based pharmaceutical carethrough direct interaction with patients and providers. This pharmacist promotes and manages drug therapy based on current clinical knowledge that is consistent with policies established at the local, regional, and national levels. The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist (Oncology) functions as part of the pharmacy team to accomplish department missions and goals.

Clinical: The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist (Oncology) will provide clinical services primarily to inpatient oncology ward(s), and secondarily to other areas as necessary. Clinical services include, but are not limited to the following:

Education and Training: The Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center is a teaching institution affiliated with Indiana University School of Medicine as well as Purdue University and Butler University colleges of pharmacy. The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist (Oncology) serves as a preceptor for the departments PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residency programs and as a preceptor for final year pharmacy clerkship interns from colleges of pharmacy throughout the year. He/she provides education on the appropriate use of medications and devices and evaluates patient comprehension. The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist (Oncology) develops and presents formal and informal educational inservices to healthcare professionals including pharmacy staff.

Required Skills:

Citizenship: U.S. Citizen (Non-citizens may be appointed when no qualified citizens are available in accordance with current regulations)

Education: Graduate of a degree program in pharmacy from an approved college or university. The degree program must have been approved by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE), or prior to the establishment of ACPE, have been a member of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP).

Specialized experience: Completion of the equivalent of 1 year of creditable experiencewhich is directly related to the position to be filled or completion of a 1 yearASHP-accredited Residency. Completion of a PGY2 residency and board certification in oncology is highly desirable.

Licensure: Full, current, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e. Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.
