The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist is responsible for planning, developing and maintaining effective clinical pharmacy programs by implementing rational cost effective drug therapy to improve patient outcomes in pain management. The employee will serve as a clinical pharmacist specializing in drug monitoring and management of therapy, with emphasis on controlled substances/pain monitoring. Responsibilities include participation in the program involved with the monitoring and management of drug therapies, formulary management, participation in the assigned patient care program medication needs, poly-pharmacy management, interaction with regulatory agencies/vendors/inspectors, and ensuring that effective clinical pharmacy services are being provided. The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will also assist with clinical education activities, provide drug information, contribute to MUE activities, provide support to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, as well as other hospital committees when called upon and provide drug information/education to patients. Distributive responsibilities will be incurred in this position when appropriate.

Required Skills:

Citizenship: U.S. Citizen (Non-citizens may be appointed when no qualified citizens are available in accordance with current regulations)

Education: Graduate of a degree program in pharmacy from an approved college or university. The degree program must have been approved by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE), or prior to the establishment of ACPE, have been a member of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP).

Specialized experience: Completion of the equivalent of 1 year of creditable experiencewhich is directly related to the position to be filled or completion of a 1 yearASHP-accredited Residency. Completion of a PGY2 residency in pain managementis highly desirable.

Licensure: Full, current, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e. Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.
