Duties Responsibilities: The Harvard Medical School Department of Psychiatry seeks an experienced substance abuse clinician to serve as project director for established and on-going NIH-funded randomized clinical trials. Major responsibilities will involve a study comparing group versus individual behavioral couples therapy for married or cohabiting alcoholic patients. A lesser role will be taken on study comparing 12-step oriented individual drug counseling versus behavioral couples therapy for married or cohabiting female patients with a primary drug abuse problem.

Clinical project director is responsible for day-to-day clinical operations for the projects at the AdCare Hospital site in Worcester, MA. The position will: (a) implement and maintain procedures for successful patient recruitment, (b) supervise two part-time clinicians in manualized behavioral interventions consisting of individual drug counseling and behavioral couple counseling, (c) supervise two research assistants in collection of research assessment data; and (d) maintain reports of project activities. Position will also deliver manualized 12-step oriented group counseling to alcoholic patients one evening per week. Finally, position will be under direct supervision of Harvard PI Timothy O'Farrell PhD through weekly meetings and phone calls as needed, but position must be able to learn detailed therapy procedures and record keeping in an independent manner.

Basic Qualifications: Requires 5 years clinical experience and a Massachusetts license as psychologist, social worker (LICSW), or LMHC. At least 3 years recent outpatient substance abuse experience.


Additional Qualifications: Must exhibit effective staff management skills, strong organizational skills, excellent interpersonal skills and good follow through. Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with treatment agency staff. Must possess strong attention to detail and proficiency in Microsoft Word Excel.

Prefer prior work in clinical management and patient recruitment in a clinical research project with a challenging patient population.


Additional Information: This is a grant funded position for one year with the possibility of renewal based on available funding and job performance.

Due to the clinical nature of this position, schedule includes working two evenings per week, with Monday evenings required to conduct the alcoholic patient group.
