Clinical Services Manager – Harrogate - £30,000 - £35,000
Our client is a rapidly expanding, well respected, national provider of cosmetic surgery.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work with our clients National Clinical Standards Manager to develop a department covering a number of key clinical areas. The National Clinical Standards Manager is intending to re-locate abroad in 2012 which provides a rare opportunity to be ‘over resourced’ to allow time for strategic planning and implementation to ensure that we have, and maintain, clinical excellence.
Personal Requirements
The Clinical Services Manager must be of integrity and good character. Discretion is key to this role as you shall be dealing with Private and Confidential information. Experience is essential to manage your role; this includes the medical field, Care Quality Commission, complaint handling, basic legal knowledge and this must be combined with commercial acumen.
Main Purpose of Job
The key areas within the role will be to develop each of the following areas:
1. Nursing – to offer support to the Lead Nurses and be responsible for nurse cover planning, new nurse training and induction planning, on call scheduling and supporting the Medical Director in improving clinical standards and developing new policies and procedures. To also be able to collate, summarise and work with the Medical Director following the notification of adverse incidents.
2. Surgeons, Anaesthetists and non-surgical practitioners - To support the Medical Director in ensuring that all practicing privileges paperwork is up to date and processed in an effective fashion. To ensure that the Surgeon revalidation process including appraisals is effectively managed.
3. CQC /HIW – To be responsible for the day to day relationship with the CQC / HIW. This will include day to day responsibility for:
a. New clinic registration
b. Inspection
c. Training
d. Protocols
e. Policies
f. Audits
4. Complaints – Assisting the Complaints Manager by providing clinical input ready for sign off by the Medical Director.
5. Meetings – Being responsible for arranging and managing Clinical Governance and MAC meetings and supporting the Responsible Individual in attending Independent Healthcare Advisory Service and similar meetings.
6. Clinical Relationships – Communicating information and events and managing internal working relationships with Responsible Individual, Medical Director and Patient Services Director. Also the need to assist in the management of clinical relationships with Surgeons, Hospitals, Stock Providers, Diagnostic Services, Anaesthetists and Laser Safety companies. This will include ensuring that all SLAs are up to date and relevant.
7. Clinical Management Information – To work with the senior management team and clinical management team to provide detailed information on Strategy planning, Budgets and Clinical Performance.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Ability
- An good understanding of the Health and Social Care Act 2008, the Care Standards Act (2000) as amended 2004 and the Independent Healthcare (Wales) Regulations 2011.
- Strong clinical background with previous hands on experience as well as experience in clinical management.
- An excellent administrator who is highly organised and pro-active.
- A desire to learn and work within a fast moving and dynamic environment.
- Good experience of working with remote sites and staff.
- Excellent intellectual and analytical ability.
- Exceptional standards of literacy and effective written communication skills for writing letters and reports.
- Effective verbal communication skills including the ability to provide clear advice and guidance over the telephone.
- Ability to remain calm and focussed.
- Ability to deal with demanding workload which may include considerable correspondence and to prioritise accordingly.
- Ability to work on own initiative and as a member of a team.
- Effective negotiation skills.
- Ability to ensure that the highest standards of quality and patient care are achieved.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with people at all levels.
- Ability to use standard office IT packages and highly competent in Word, Excel and PowerPoint in order to allow for the production of policies and procedures, management reports and summaries of clinical performance data.
