Is a 12 month-52 week position beginning the 2nd to last Monday of each Dec. ending the following Dec. The position requires that the clinical specialist resident participate in 850 hrs of clinical practice, where the resident is responsible to be the primary provider of physical therapy services. To successfully complete the program, the position must attain: a minimum cumulative score of 225 points on three clinical performance examinations, attend up to 288 hrs of didactic classroom education based on the description of Specialty Practice for a recognized practice area, attain a cumulative score of 70% on 3 written exam, pass 3 live technique exams, provide up to 40 hrs of pro-bono physical therapy services at a designated free clinic, participate in an approved research project. Provides physical therapy evaluations and treatment at a treatment facility within the Southern California Region. Responsibilities include oversight of support staff, both clinical and non-clinical, daily documentation, care planning, and treatment progression for patients.
Essential Functions:
- Able to design physical therapy treatment programs in the specialty area that are medically prescribed in a manner that is competent efficient including-evaluating of patients
- Designs provides in-service education programs instruction to staff students
- Insure cleanliness of assigned area proper functioning of patient care equipment by following department equipment maintenance policies procedures
- Demonstrates professional competence in assessing patient's condition at the onset through all phases of the physical therapy program
- Routinely obtain accurate complete history through clinical observation interaction w/ the patient
- Routinely perform appropriate examinations, using specialized evaluation procedures
- Consistently interpret evaluation findings correctly to determine nature degree of dysfunction
- Consistently establish measurable treatment goals develop appropriate treatment plans to achieve those goals
- Regularly reassess clinical signs symptoms to determine effectiveness of treatment, progress toward goals, the need for modification of treatment and/or goals
- Routinely consult w/ the referring physician regarding treatment request which are contraindicated relative to the patient's physical condition or medical history
- Demonstrate skill in the performance of physical therapy skills relative to musculoskeletal neurological assessment treatment procedures including
- Testing treatment of spine extremities using accessory physiological joint motions
- Clinical testing to determine muscle strength, reflexes, sensation, coordination, range of motion, other sensory motor skills
- Clinical analysis treatment of postural, gait, ADL disorders
- Administrations of exercise programs/development of patient care programs
- Demonstrate an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional, chronological maturation process in the delivery of services to patients of the age group served
- Is able to assess data reflective of the patient's status interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age specific needs to provide care in accordance w/ departmental policy
- Develop implement special classes or clinics for patient populations w/ in area of expertise in conjunction w/ other members of the rehabilitation department outside personnel as appropriate
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Graduate of an approved school of Physical Therapy (BS, MS, DPT or PhD)
- CA Physical Therapy license or Physical Therapist Licensed Applicant (PTLA) required
- If PTLA, must pass Physical Therapy exam within 90 days of hire
- If hired in City of LA, Fire Safety certification required
- American Heart Association approved BLS required
- National Provider Identifier (NPI) required
- Consistently demonstrates the knowledge, skills, abilities, behaviors necessary to provide superior culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members, to customers, contracted providers, vendors

Notes:
- Employee is required to attend weekend courses as part of the KP Orthopedic PT Residency Program
- Hours to be determine but must coordinate with the assigned PT mentor
