Duties/Responsibilities
Primary Functions: This veterinarian serves as a clinician in Animal Care Operations. Dedicated veterinary clinical services are required to support expanding colonies of nonhuman primates, genetically-engineered mice, rats, rabbits and aquatic species. Also, responsibility for the education and training of research and animal care personnel is part of this function. In addition, other scholarly pursuits and collaborative research activities may be a part of these duties.

Must be able to collaborate with investigators on animal- related research projects.

Must be able to present lectures using visual aids to faculty, students and other required audiences in a clear and understandable manner.

Participate in professional, graduate, and undergraduate student education and training.

Must be present physically to work a minimum of 40 hours per week.

Must participate in scholarly academic contributions to scientific literature.

Must be able to walk and drive form one area to another (including satellite facilities)

He/she assists with duties of the Director, Animal Care Operations, particularly in working with investigators on clinical procedures and health concerns.

He/she also assists with the review of animal use requests associated with the institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and with monitoring of approved protocols.

He/she participates in IACUC semi-annual inspections of animal facilities and assists investigators in complying with animal care and use requirements.

Service on other institutional compliance committees may be assigned as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from an American Veterinary Medical Association accredited institution.

Postgraduate clinical experience in laboratory animal medicine is preferred.

Must have a minimum of four years training and experience in
veterinary clinical practice and/or laboratory animal medicine.

Licensure/Certification/Registration Requirements:

Eligible or licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Texas

Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the United States

Eligible or boarded diplomat of ACLAM is preferred

Eligible for USDA accreditation

Eligible for State and Federal registration to handle controlled substances
