CMI Senior Consultant - Field Studies

The CMI Senior Consultant -Field Studies supports effective execution of qualitative field study projects primarily focused on key CMI initiatives aimed at improving patient, family, and staff experiences as well as clinical processes.

Major Responsibilities:

Lead qualitative field work projects at CMI using ethnography and related methods for quality improvement initiatives. Work closely with subject matter experts at CMI to understand what qualitative program evaluation studies or analyses would best support identification of best practices and/or establishment of new insights on patient and staff experiences to support and catalyze performance improvement and clinical process improvement. Translate needs, issues, and ideas into effective 'voice of the customer' or case studies aimed at developing creative solutions and new ways of thinking. Apply methodological expertise and knowledge to determine the scope, design, and implementation of applied ethnographies, case studies, focus groups, surveys, and other qualitative evaluation projects.

Support for 4-month training program on video ethnography for quality.
Support training and coaching for 3-5 teams including establishing relationships with teams and sponsors; supporting teams in study design, sampling, applying field work methods, and maintaining relationships with multi-media departments across KP.

Lead presentations on results from studies and/or field work methods for quality improvement. Conduct presentations on findings from CMI studies and video ethnography and field work methods at conferences and meetings.

Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years related experience.
- 4-year degree and MS Degree and/or PhD is required
- Thorough knowledge of policies, practices and systems.
- Complete understanding and application of principles, concepts, practices, and standards.
- Full knowledge of industry practices.
- Broad application of principles, theories, and concepts in applicable discipline, plus working knowledge of other related fields.
- Strong working knowledge and experience of applied qualitative social science methods.
- Experience applying qualitative program evaluation methods in a health care organizational setting, including: developing pragmatic study designs, case studies, video ethnographies, and/or participatory qualitative data collection methods that incorporate client team members into the field alongside with 'researchers'.
- Background in one or more of the following: health services research, policy analysis, innovation and design, and/or organizational management and consulting.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Working knowledge and abilities in using video for applied research projects desired and demonstrated ability to acquire skills and other analytic tools as needed required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of Kaiser Permanente and/or the internal workings and operations of medical centers, hospitals, and/or clinics a plus.
