The person in this senior role will, together with the incumbent of the equivalent role in Hong Kong, lead and manage the Global Markets Legal team in Asia and provide high quality legal advice to the Global Markets business. This would mean assisting business with instructing external legal advisers to ensure value for money and appropriate cost control and where possible keep work in-house rather than brief out. You will seek for continuous improvement in terms of quality, efficiency and risk management, to save time and cost without inappropriately increasing risk.
Focus is on ensuring team provides internal customers with high quality legal services, with a particular focus on being proactive, efficient and 'adding value', including ensuring that customers are aware of upcoming regulatory developments. You will provide leadership, support, guidance, and recommendations to members of the Global Markets Legal Asia team on all matters including matters relating to transactional documentation, legal agreements and global markets master agreements.
Anticipating commercial impact to our business areas of law reform proposals, managing legal risk in business context and educating business in regulatory/legislative impacts will be expected of you.
Qualifications:
- Tertiary legal qualification (law degree) with at least 10 years experience, with a minimum of 5 years derivatives and financial markets law experience
- Strong leadership, managerial and people skills
- Ability to build strong relationships with lawyers and business people
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong experience in managing legal services in a fast paced growth environment
- Strong understanding of the Financial markets environment, compliance and risk issues and products
